Sri Panchami 2017 date – dedicated to Goddess Saraswati in Magh month

Sri Panchami is dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi, the Hindu Goddess of Learning and it is also known as Saraswati Puja. Sri Panchami 2017 date is February 1. It is observed as the birthday or Jayanti of Goddess Saraswati in North and Eastern parts of India and Nepal in Magha Mahina (January – February). The day is popularly observed as Basant Panchami.

Note in some regions it is also observed on Chaitra Shukla Paksha Panchami. In 2017, it is on April 1.

In some regions it is also observed on Chaitra Krishna Paksha Panchami and this is on March 17, 2017.

Shri Panchami is observed on the fifth day during the Shukla Paksha of Magh month (January – February) as per traditional Hindu lunar calendar.

The popular belief is that Goddess Saraswati made her appearance for the good of the human beings on the day.

Goddess Saraswati is worshipped using yellow followers and yellow colored clothes on the day. Yellow color symbolically represents spiritual knowledge. Hindus also wear yellow garments on the day.

Young children are also initiated into the world of learning on the day.

It must be noted here that Shri Panchami is also observed on the fifth day of the waxing phase of moon in Chaitra month (March – April). This is on April 1, 2017.
