Uttpatti Ekadasi is observed during the waning phase of the moon in the month of November/ December. Uttpatti Ekadasi 2013 date is November 29. This particular Ekadasi is considered by many people as the Ekadasi to begin the fortnightly Ekadasi fasting. People who would like to start observing Ekadashi fasting, or those that had stopped, Ekadasi fasting choose Uttpatti Ekadasi to begin the Ekadasi vrat.
Uttpatti Ekadashi is observed in the Krishna Paksha of Margasheersh month in North Indian calendars. The corresponding period in other regions is the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month.
The importance of Uttpatti Ekadasi was explained to Arjuna by Lord Krishna and is found in Bhavishyottara Purana.
It is believed that observing this Ekadasi will help in washing away sins committed and will help in attaining Moksha.
