Shasti, or Sashti, observed on the sixth day of the waxing phase of moon (Shukla Paksha) in a lunar fortnight is an important day in a Hindu calendar and is associated with Lord Muruga. There are two Sashti in a month and devotees of Skanda observe partial or full fast on the Shashti occurring after the new moon (Amavasya).
