Margshirsh (November – October) is the ninth month in a traditional Marathi calendar followed in
Maharashtra. In 2010, Magshar month in Marathi Calendar begins on December 6 and ends on January 4, 2011. Some of the auspicious days in the month include Gita Jayanti, Mokshada Ekadashi and Saphala Ekadasi.
Many Hindu homes avoid non-vegetarian food during Margshirsh month.
Margshirsh Shukla Paksha (Waxing phase of moon) begins on December 6 to December 21.
Margshirsh Krishna Paksha (Wabing Phase of moon) begins on December 22 and ends on January 4.
Margshirsh Purnima (full moon day) is on December 21
Margshirsh Amavasi (no moon day) is on January 4.
In traditional North Indian calendars the Margshirsh month began on November 22, 2010 and it will end on December 21.
In Gujarati, Telugu and Kannada Calendar also Margshirsh month begins on December 6, 2010 and ends on January 4, 2011.
