Sri Madhva Jayanti – Madhwacharya Jayanthi

Sri Madhva Jayanti, or Madhwacharya Jayanthi, is an auspicious day dedicated to Saint Madhvacharya, the great religious reformer and commentator on the Brahma Sutras and the Upanishads. In 2014, the date of Sri Madhva Jayanti is October 3. It is observed on 10th day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in Ashwin Month. Sri Madhwa Acharya is the exponent of the Dwaita School of philosophy also known as Sad Vaishnavism – Vishnu or Narayana is the Supreme Being.

Sri Madhwa Jayanti is observed annually on the Vijayadasami or Dasara day.
According to the philosophy of Madhvacharya, Lord Vishnu (Hari) is the Supreme Being and resides in Vaikunta with his consort Shri Lakshmi. The world we see is real and the difference is true. Vishnu is the only independent reality. All living and non living beings are dependent on Vishnu. Souls and world are dependent on Vishnu and is separate from Vishnu. Bhakthi is the only means of attaining Moksha.
