Pratipada Shradh, also known Dehhitr Pratipada Shraddh, is the first day of the Shraddh during the Pitru Paksha period in Ashwin month in traditional calendar in
North India. In 2012, the date of Pratipada Shradh is September 30. The corresponding period in other regions is the Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad month. Shraddh rituals are offered to dead parents, relatives and ancestors.
The popular belief is that the Shradh rituals performed during the period will directly reach the dead ancestors and they will attain Moksha. The rituals are performed during Pitru Paksha fortnight all over
India except in some parts of South India.
