Pradosh, or Pradosha Vrat, is a highly auspicious day dedicated to Lord Shiva on the 12th day of every lunar fortnight in traditional Hindu calendar. Shiva devotees undertake a fasting from sunrise to sunset on the Pradosham day. The Pradosha puja is performed during the twilight period. The date of Pradosh in September 2011 are September 9, 2011 and September 25, 2011.
Pradosh as the name indicates is a period just before sunset and after sunset. The Pradosha period is between 1.5 hours before sunset and 1 hour after sunset.
Some people only observe fasting on anyone Pradosh day in a month. There are staunch Shiva devotees who observe fast on the both the days in a month.
Special pujas are performed in Shiva temples during the period. It is said that Lord Shiva and Parvati are in a happy mood during Pradosham period and they shower blessings on devotees.
