Tirukkural is a Tamil poetic composition by Saint Tiruvalluvar and contains advises on various subjects.
Pretending knowledge of things not learnt, one loses credit for the knowledge one really possesses. Don’t pretend to be knowledgeable of things that one does not know.
Desire is the seed out of which is born the unending cycle of birth and rebirth.
If there is no true understanding all the knowledge that the five senses give is of no avail.
Pain of all kinds holds him in its relentless grip who fondly holds on to the things of the world.

I have two translations of the Thirukkural and yet to read... one of the things on my Bucket List. I have seen his memorial in Kanyakumari and Chennai.
Pretending knowledge is a way for those who work in business and sales to make a living. They feign that they understand about goods but really do not know at all. Others in other jobs and situations do it to look good and achieve status.
Just attending lessons and lectures and doing homework and coursework is useless unless it is applied or wherefrom one can go on to different things that have complemented their studies. Most education is not that good and just fills in the qualification and certiifcate boxes for one to have the basic skills to perform tasks and do the work. Beyond this nothing is gained and has no use.
