All of us should do our bit to protect the environment and spread awareness about using eco-friendly Ganpati idols. Mumbai-based sculptor Ramesh Date has conceived and created an innovative, re-usable easy to assemble, 3-part coconut shell Ganpati murti. Only the intact coconut needs to be symbolically immersed in water and has to be replaced to re-assemble the murti each year. For a better idea of this innovative creation, nature loving Ganesh bhakts can check this link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN-BCIDvlwU

Thank you for promoting our cause. We also do a campaign to keep the rivers of Pune clean along with Swach which is a ragpickers cooperative. Nirmalya is collected segregated and recycled appropriately. This year we are planning to help the Blind Boys school perform the dhol tasha for the festival. We believe that Indian festivals should be respectful of nature and inclusive of all sections of society.

Its a great effort. We moved to Pune last year. And, I simply could not find a vendor who sells Ganpati made of clay. So, last year we simply decided not to bring POP Ganpati home and we managed with a wooden one we already have. During Diwali also we ended up getting Laxmi and Ganapati made of silver.

Although, this article mentions Co-exist as a vendor who supplies clay Ganapati, it would be nice if you research and provide more choices and places where people can get Ganapati made of clay.
