A Total Solar Eclipse – Purna Surya Grahan – will take place on July 11, 2010. It is not visible in India. The eclipse will be visible only in parts of South America, Cook Islands, French Polynesia etc. Hindu Panchangs and calendars have ignored the Suryagrahanam. As per the India Time the eclipse will be taking place from 23:45:00 hrs on July 11, 2010 to 02:20:00 on July 12, 2010. The GMT or Universal Time of the Eclipse is from 18:15 UT to 20:52 UT
According to NASA, the Suryagrahan on July 11 is a ‘Total Solar Eclipse’ and Moon's umbral shadow crosses the South Pacific Ocean where it makes no landfall except for Mangaia (Cook Islands) and Easter Island (Isla de Pascua). The path of totality ends just after reaching southern Chile and Argentina. The Moon's penumbral shadow produces a partial eclipse visible from a much larger region covering the South Pacific and southern South America

Usually, Hindus do not perform any work during Surya Grahan and they purify themselves by taking a bath and chants the Ashtakshara Mantra dedicated to Shri Krishna, Lord Vishnu and Shiva. Ashtakshara mantra is ‘Shri Krishna ha sharnam mama.’
Generally most Hindu temples remain closed during the period of solar eclipse and temples reopen on the next day morning after special pujas and rituals. Hindus in large number take holy dip in Rivers like

Ends 9:43:55 A.M

Surya Grahan is not visible in Cuacao in Netherland Antilles in the Caribbean. If you are particular about the time you will need to convert it from the Indian Standard Time. In India the grahan is from 05:30 AM to 0730 AM.

@ Padma...You can go to office there is no problem. The only thing you should remember is not to look at the sun directly during the eclipse period. All the rest are just rumors and they have no scientific value.
@Padma, it is a fact that UV radiation is more during the eclipse. Please stay indoors till 9 AM. Also it is an amavasya day. I suggest that you recite your prayers during the eclipse and keep thinking positive thoughts about the pregnancy & the baby. There is nothing to worry. According to astrology, eclipses bring lot of changes to every one in all walks of life. It is also a good day to give alms or help others in need. Take a bath after the eclipse. All the Best!!

The information above is not entirely correct.
While the eclipse is not visible in the USA, from an astrological perspective it will still be a strong influence. It will be peaking in the evening, around 7:15p I believe.
The classical texts will advise you to stay indoors and do spiritual practices for a 2-4 hour window around the peak.
Dear anonymous i don't agree with you. The Grahan place is important. Because when a grahan is taking place in Atlantic Ocean or other far areas in India it is not observed. So place is important.
I sort of agree with both with Subodh and the one before.. The sun does not need to set completely in India while it rises in USA and vice-versa. There is a fraction of day when sun is visible both in India and USA. The sunset in the place I live in USA on July 21st is 9:20PM which is equivalent to 9:40AM in India. While India is seeing solar eclipse, we would be seeing the normal sunset; the only difference being, moon comes in the way between India face of earth and sun. The gravitational force continue to exist whether you are on the US face of earth or Indian face of earth. However, the intensity of rays is different with US face of earth being the lesser affected. From a gravitation standpoint of view, the impact should be equal, while in radiation point of view the US face of earth should be less impacted.
