Mithun Sankranti – Mithuna Samkranti

Mithun Sankranti, also known as Aashadh Sankranti, marks the beginning of the Sun’s transition from Mithuna to Karka Rashi (from Gemini to Cancer). There are 12 Sankranthis in a Hindu Solar Calendar and Mithnu Sankranti is the last cycle in the Uttarayana period. In 2010, the date of Mithun Sankranti is June 15.

‘San’ means plenty and good and ‘Kranti’ means radical change and Sankranthi means plenty of good change.

Raja Sankranti is observed during the period in Orissa. The rainy season starts in some parts of Indian during the Mithun Sankranti.

Dakshinayana starts with the end of Mithun Sankranti in South India.
