Dear Abhilash,
I was anxiously waiting for the Makar Rasi Forecast post to see what the Month of June has in store for me...I am not a firm believer in astrological predictions though..yet do tend to peep at it when ever I feel I have some doubts...but off late I have been very restless and I would like to know if the principles of the "Universal Law of Attraction" is any way a part of Sanatana Dharma. The Universal Law of Attraction states that you reap what you sow...if you think positive you attract positivity...but if one reaps negativity...he receives evil...Also I would like to know if every thing is pre-destined/pre-written...is it possible for a human to change the course of his life in his own way?
There is nothing pre-destined or pre-written but yes people do inherit some characteristics of their ancestors and this might take them through a predicted path if they are not willing to change.
Yep, you will reap what you sow. There is no doubt about it...
Yes a human being can always change the course of his life provided he/she has the courage to do it. Changing the course means you are walking away from the majority and finding your path and this needs tons and tons of courage and determination....very few people choose this path..
Devi Sati's tapasya to get Lord Shiva in the form of her Husband inspite of her Father's unwillingness to get her married to a Yogi...Can this be a specimen to explain what you have written in your comment...what I mean to say is that there are many people who keep aiming at their goal and are completely devoted to achieve it despite opposition from others...is this what is meant by focusing on what you need and being determined enough to acheive it inspite of all odds...This is what even Arjuna did...focussing on his goal and achieving it under any circumstance...
Yes Devi Sati, Goddess Parvati all showed courage and determination in achieving their respective goals...We should focus on our goals but always remember our goals should not be for selfish needs. It should not harm a living being. It should always be for the truth or to uphold Dharma.
From a POV of a Woman, Devi Sati wnet against her parents wishes and got married to Lord Shiva...now did not this act of Devi Sati hurt her parents...Her Parents might have eventually realised her love for Shiva but what else could have she done...It was she who had all the rights to choose who her life partner should be...I believe..(if I am not wrong) she set herself on fire when her father insulted Shiva in front of a huge gathering...Dono if I am right or wrong...
Rejecting Lord Shiva as Sati’s husband by Daksha was due to Daksha’s arrogance and pride. He started to believe that Lord Shiva is a vagabond who roams the graveyards. So it was the duty of Sati to teach her father that he is walking the path of Adharma and need to change. Objecting to Sati marrying Shiva arose from a selfish motive.
Shiva hard warned Sati that she will be insulted and the whole exercise of the Yajna was to insult Him. But Sati did not listen to Shiva... and she wanted to know why Shiva was not invited.
Here Shiva had given a sane advice …Shiva was not selfish in asking Sati to not to go ....but Sati went ahead and paid the price for not listening to a sound counsel.
Yes she did immolate herself.
In one of the Episodes of 'Engae Brahmana' I learnt that if one needs to grow in his career and prevent jealousy affect him, then he can do Sudarshana Homam to ward off negativity which in turn will help his succeed in his career/Business...similarly many women fast on Mondays (the way you too have mentioned in this blog) to get a good husband or some who they desire to make their husbands...fasting, performing Homams are ways of devotion...what do you think...
All vrats in Hinduism are meant for contemplation and to help in stay focused. When a person observes a vrat he/she is constantly reminded for her or his mission. A true devotee will use Vrats to stay more focused and single minded to achieve the goal. But sadly most people think that performing Vrats they will get materialistic gains or special concessions from God.
Homams are again for the same process to help the devotee remained focused. But the priests have made this into a complicated ritual to confuse and enamor the devotee…
Adi Shankaracharya has clearly explained about rituals you can find it here in these links – Shankaracharya on worthlessness of complicated rituals rituals and Shankaracharya on rituals.
