Gangotri Temple 2009 Visiting Period – Opening and Closing Dates

Gangotri Temple is part of the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, India. Located at an altitude of 3084, Gangotri Shrine is dedicated to Ganga Maa and is also known as the Temple of River Ganga (Ganges). A slab on which King Bhagirath meditated to bring Goddess Ganga down to earth is located near the temple. In 2009, Gangotri Temple will open on April 27, 2009 and close on October 17, 2009.

Char Dham Yatra comprises of pilgrimage to Badrinath Temple, Kedarnath Temple, Gangotri and Yamunotri in Uttarakhand, India.

The Gangotri temple remains closed for a major part of the year – especially during the harsh winter. The shrine remains open from April to October – Akshaya Tritiya to Diwali.
