Akshaya Tritiya, or Akha Teej, is a highly auspicious day which falls on the third day after Amavasi (no moon) in the Hindu month of Vaishakha. Akshaya Tritiya 2014 date is May 2. As per Hindu astrology and almanac, each second on the Akshaya Trithiya day is auspicious. It is said that there is no need to look for a ‘muhurat’ on the day. The word Akshaya means ‘that which never diminishes’ and the day is ideal for beginning new ventures as it is believed that all investments on this day appreciates.
In a traditional Hindu lunar calendar, Akshay Tritiya is observed on the third day of Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of moon) in Vaishakh Month.
It is believed that the sun and the moon are most radiant and best placed on the day. Therefore it is one of the most popular dates in Hindu calendar for marriages, for beginning new ventures, for investing and for purchasing valuables like gold and diamond.
Parashuram Jayanti is also observed on Akshaya Tritiya day. There are numerous legends associated with Akshaya Tritiya; most popular is that of Sudama or Kuchela visiting Lord Krishna in Dwarka with a handful of beaten rice (poha or aval).
Another legend suggests that the Pandavas received the Akshaya Pathram (bowl) from Lord Krishna (in the Mahabharata) on this day.
It is also believed that Sage Vyasa began the composition of Mahabharata on the day.
Lord Vishnu and his incarnations are worshipped on the day. People also conduct Lakshmi puja on Akshaya Tritiya.
But nowadays, Akshaya Trithiya is associated with gold purchase and many people wait for the day to make investments in gold.

Agni Nakshatram is actually period of around 15 days when the sun is at is blazing best (the period comes in May) it is usually mentioned in tamil calendars....i feel it has nothing to do with Akshaya Tritiya....

I love this very auspicious day, Akha Teej, and if Solar Eclipse is occuring on this day and all effects of Akha Teej gets void, then its really a very sad news to not only me, but everybody. Its good to visit temple, do a good deed, like anna-dhanam, as thats the best in all dhanams. Also, buying and investing in Platinum is considered really very very auspicious.

Agni Nakshatram is the period when sun enters the Kritika star for 13.3 days.. however the sun will be in peak during this days in South India and the effect starts much before it enters the star so its starts on may 4 and ends on May 28. So it calculated from Start from Bharani 2, 3 and krithika, 1, 2, 3, 4 and Rohini 1, 2 padas. This is more auspisous that the moisture in the air is less and very great time to clean the gainary and re fill with new grains. That is why this is called Akshya (a:mean no + kshya: means less) in whole it means will always be filled. They do dhaanya pooja which also a wealth. Now a days it became only for gold. And farmers are not encouraged to do farming... pitty on us... there will be oneday when rice will be imported from China....
solar eclipse on this day no way... people dont have astronmy sense.... similarly i see in films too.. in one move, they show full moon on diwali day... and in other movie... they show complete moon on karvachowth day.... some times get irritated....
This year's Akshaya Trithiya is the most inauspicious day as the whole day is Marana yoga or athiganda. And with the current price of gold, it is better to postpone buying, and, certainly do not buy in Marana Yoga.

Maranam means 'death' in Tamil. No auspicious acts are performed when the yoga is not good. On this day it is downright bad.
