Akha Teej is the popular name of Akshaya Tritiya in Northern and Western parts of
. In 2017, the date of Akha Teej is April 29. In western parts of India (Maharashtra and Gujarat) it is marked on April 28. Akha Teej is observed on the third day after the Amavasi day in Vaishaka month (April – May) as per the traditional Hindi calendar followed in India North India. As per Hindu Astrology, the day is highly auspicious day because the sun and moon are believed to be at their best position and shower brilliance on earth.
Today, Akha Teej is the most anticipated day by many people to invest in property and gold. It is believed that any investment or relationship begun on the day will be long lasting. ‘Akshaya’ means eternal or that which never diminishes.
The day is also highly auspicious from spiritual point of view as it is the day when Lord Parashuram (sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu) appeared on earth. Chandan yatra is held in Jagannath Temples on the day. The once in a year Charan darshan of Lord Krishna at the Banke Bihari Temple takes place on Akha Teej.
Special pujas dedicated to Ganesha, Lord Vishnu and Maha Lakshmi are observed on the day. Alms giving, donating food and clothes on the day is believed to bring eternal glory.
