Chaitra Mahina, or Chaitra Maas, is the first month in the traditional Hindu calendar followed in North India – especially in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand,
Bihar and Chhattisgarh. In 2011, Chaitra Mahina begins on March 20 and ends on April 18, 2011. The traditional Hindi New Year is celebrated on the Chaitra Shukala Pratipada (on the first day of the waxing phase of moon in Chaitra Month or the day after Amavasi or no moon day).
Chaitra Krishna Paksha is from March 20, 2011 to April 3, 2011.
Chaitra Shukla Paksha is from April 4, 2011 to April 18, 2011.
Vikram Samvat 2068 as per traditional Hindu calendar followed in
North India will begin on April 4, 2011. The Hindi New Year will be celebrated on this day.
The important auspicious days in the month include Chaitra Navratri and Ram Navami.
It must be noted here that Chaitra month in calendars followed in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra and
Gujarat begins on April 4, 2011.
