Srisailam Temple Shivaratri Festival – Maha Shivaratri Brahmotsavam

One of the most important festivals held at the Lord Shiva temple in Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh is the Maha Shivaratri Brahmotsavam or the Maha Shivaratri festival. The most important event during the festival is the celestial marriage ceremony of Lord Shiva with Bhramaramba Devi (Goddess Parvati) on the Shivaratri day.

The presiding deities of the Srisailam Temple are Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Goddess Bhramaramba Devi. Lord Shiva is known as Mallikarjuna Swamy here and the temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Bhramaramba Devi is one of the eighteen Mahasakthis and is an incarnation of Goddess Shakti. It is believed that the idols worshipped here are self-manifested.
