All Hindu temples remain closed during Surya Grahan and will reopen only after the Grahan after conducting special pujas and rituals. On the day, Hindus also take holy dip in River Ganga and Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra.
Usually, religious Hindus do not perform any work during Surya Grahan and they purify themselves by taking a bath and chants the Ashtakshara Mantra dedicated to Shri Krishna. Ashtakshara mantra is ‘Shri Krishna ha sharnam mama.’
Most astrologers are of the view that this Surya Grahan will only bring bad.
There is also a Total Solar Eclipse on July 22, 2009.

Ancient Hindu saints only talk about the physical harm Surya Grahanam can create on human beings. Since grahanam is occuring in Chennai from 14.28 hours, is it OK for people residing in Chennai to have food before that, say around 12 noon? Pl clarify
The usual practice by staunch Hindus is to fast on the day of Grahan. But these days most people take food before Surya Grahan. There should be no problem this time around as this is only a partial solar eclipse. So you can take before Surya Grahan.

In Hong Kong it will be visible from 17:08..maximum eclipse will be at 18:03...
Of course you can always fast...Nothing for the mandirs...usually the mandir remains closed during Surya Grahan...

Nothing is Mythlogy, we need to understand that. Things happened so many years ago which is beyong us to comprehend, so we tag it as as myth o logy. But the truth is everything really happened in real.
Luckily we have computers, had we not had then 5000 years from now, Gandhiji would also be a mytholgy.
