Jaya Ekadashi February 2024 - Mantra - Benefits - Importance - How to Perform Puja on Jaya Ekadasi?

Jaya Ekadasi is observed during the waxing phase of the moon (Shukla Paksha) in the month of January/February. In 2024, the date of Jaya Ekadashi is February 20. It is also observed as Bhishma Ekadashi and Bhoumi Ekadasi by various Hindu communities. It is believed that observing Jaya Ekadashi will help in getting rid of remorse attached to sins committed and it also leads to liberation (Moksha).

How to Perform Puja on Jaya Ekadasi?

The importance of Jaya Ekadashi was narrated to Yudhishtira by Lord Krishna and is found in the Padma Purana and the Bhavishyottara Purana.

Fasting on Jaya Ekadashi is considered highly beneficial. Some staunch Vishnu devotees also do not sleep during the night. All the normal rules associated with Ekadashi fasting is followed.

Importance of Jaya Ekadasi

  • On Jaya Ekadasi, Lord Vishnu is worshipped in the form of Jagadishwar - the lord of the universe. 
  • Sinners will be blessed with sin redemption.

Benefits of  Jaya Ekadasi Vrat

  • As per Padma Purana, a person performing the vrat will get the opportunity to wash away sins. 
  • A person performing the vrat will not be born in Bhoot - Preta Yoni - they will not be born as ghosts or other negative forces. 
  • Victory over enemies. 
  • Desire fulfillment.
  • Overcome financial difficulties.

How to do Vishnu Puja on Jaya Ekadasi?

  • Puja should be performed in the west side of the house early morning after sunrise or in the evening.
  • Take bath and wear blue color clothes.
  • Take a steel kalash and fill it with water. Put some tulsi leaves. Close the mouth of the steel kalash with a coconut.
  • Place the kalash on a blue color cloth.
  • Offer prayers to Vishnu as the Lord of the Universe.
  • Lamp should be lit use cow ghee - one wick is preferred.
  • Offer Chandan.
  • Offer rose flower dhoop or agarbatti.
  • Offer kasturi fragrance - Attar or water.
  • Offer blue color flowers.
  • Offer a sweet prepared using coconut. This should be shared with family members after puja.
  • Chant the mantra ॐ नमो भगवाते जगदीश्वराय (om namo bhagavate jagadishaya) using a chandan mala. 

Special Pujas on Jaya Ekadasi

  • Light six lamps using sesame oil (til ka tel) to defeat enemies.
  • Offer supari and clove to Vishnu on the day. Later keep it in money locker to have desires fulfilled.
  • To overcome financial difficulties offer 12 badams to Vishnu. Later cover them with a black color cloth and keep in hidden in house.
