when performing the monthly Tithi, (puja for the departed) on days of the amavyasa that begins on a date eg.17-oct-2009 and overlaps into the next day 18-oct-2009.. what is the standard and correct practice observed on when to perform the puja's.
The usual process is to take the majority period. If the majority time of Amavas is on 17-Oct then it is taken for puja etc.

There are no pujas for Amavasi. Shradh is observed for the dead. The June 1 Amavasi is observed as Vat Savitiri in North India. Here women perform various rituals. A similar ritual is observed in Orissa too.

On shani amavas take bath in morning , pour wayer to pipel tree and take name of shani "om shan shaneshcharay namah" in front of god shani. Also sing shani chalisa and shani aarti in last.
