Pandarpur Palki Yatra – Pandharpur Kartik Ekadasi Yatra

The Pandharpur Yatra to the famous Vithoba Temple at Pandarpur in Maharashtra takes place four times in a year and one such annual Yatra takes place during the Karthik month (October – November) as per traditional Marathi calendar. In 2014, the date of Pandharpur Kartik Ekadasi Yatra is November 3. The Pandharpur Karthik Ekadasi Yatra culminates on the Prabodini Ekadashi day after new moon (Amavasi) in Kartik month.

The most famous Pandharpur Yatra is the Ashadi Ekadasi Waari Yatra which takes place during June - July.
Pandharpur Kartik EkadasiYatra begins on the first day of Kartik month and extends till the Kartik Purnima day. The most important day is the Prabodini Ekadasi day.

Pandharpur Kartik Ekadasi Yatra and the famous Ashadi Ekadasi Waari Yatra are interconnected through the famous Chatur Maas – the cosmic sleep of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that after Ashadi Ekadasi Waari Yatra Lord Vishnu goes into his cosmic slumber and wakes up on Kartik Ekadasi day.

Warkaris, pilgrims to Pandarpur, follow the palkis (palanquins with images of famaous saints) by singing and praying to the Vithoba Temple. People walk the entire stretch and finally reach the abode of Lord Vitthal for his darshan.
Kartik EkadasiYatra is not as big as the world famous Ashadi Ekadasi Waari Yatra but it still attracts thousands of devotees.
