Durga Puja Sashti - Starting Of Durga Puja Rituals

Durga Puja Sashti, or Sasthi, is observed on the sixth after new moon in the Bengali month Ashwin. In 2024, the date of Durga Puja Sashti is October 9. Goddess Durga is welcomed on Sashti day to Puja pandals and households. The important ritual on the day includes unveiling the face of Durga murti (idol) and Kalparamba. Bodhon, Amontron and Adibas are some of the main rituals on Sashti day.

Kalparamba is the beginning of Pujas. Bodhon is the consecration (invocation) of Goddess Durga Idol. Amontron is inviting the Goddess and Adibas sanctifying the stay of Goddess in the pandal of puja arena.

Durga Puja is mainly a community puja and therefore majority of the rituals associated with it are performed by a group of elderly people or by priests.
