Durga Puja in Kolkata – Global Warming and Nature to be Puja Pandal Themes in 2008



Some of the important and famous Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata city will have Nature, Global Warming and Pollution as puja pandal themes during Durga Puja 2008. It is expected that at least 10 puja pandals will be focusing on Global Warming or other environment friendly aspects. Many vigilant citizens are realizing the fact that global warming is one of the most important issues facing mankind and this will be reflected during Durga Puja in Kolkata in 2008.

Important Durga Puja pandals in Kolkata like FD block in Salt Lake, Suruchi Sangha in New Alipore, Ajeyo Sanghati in Haridebpur, and Tridhara Sammilani near Deshapriya Park will have environment protection as theme. (Reports the Telegraph Calcutta)

The pandals will be concentrating on the need to turn green, and the negative aspects of industrial emission, vehicular pollution, unplanned urbanization and deforestation. Apart from exhibitions at the pandals, the organizers will also be distributing leaflets which deal with the importance of being ecofriendly; some organizers are conducting quiz programs and contests.

Earlier, many Durga puja pandals in Kolkata had decided to use only ecofriendly materials during the celebrations in 2008.
