The Trip Of First Two Batches For Kailash Mansoravar Yatra 2008 Cancelled

The Government of India has cancelled the first two batches for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage 2008. The pilgrimage will now commence from June 13, 2008 with Batch number 3. The people who were supposed to visit Kailash Mansoravar in Batch 1 and 2 will be accommodated in the later batches.

The Ministry of External Affairs in India in a press briefing stated:

The annual Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage for year 2008 was scheduled to commence from June 1, 2008. The Government of People’s Republic of China conveyed to the Ministry of External Affairs that on account of domestic reasons they would not be in a position to receive pilgrims before June 21, 2008. In view of this, the Ministry of External Affairs had to cancel the Batch Numbers 1 and 2. The Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage for year 2008 will now commence from the Batch number 3 which is scheduled to depart New Delhi on June 13, 2008. The Ministry is continuing its efforts with the Government of People’s Republic of China to accommodate the pilgrims of the Batch numbers 1 and 2 in later batches.

It must be noted here that the Government of India had invited applications for the Kailash Mansoravar Yatra 2008 in January. The last date of application was March 17.
