Can you tell me the name of the festival where people put a light bulb on a stick and leave it on. It is known as Akash Deep in certain parts of India. It signifies that it is a lighted path for the ancestors to pass on. Could you please tell me on which date this falls in 2008 and when it ends. Thank you.
Hi Nayana, the lighting of lamps Akash Deep for ancestors is performed in the Kartik month in Hindi calendar. It is observed in Kashi mainly. Lamps are lit during the entire month. The major festival takes place on the kartik purnima day which is around fifteen days after Diwali. In 2008, Kartik month is from October 15 to November 13 in Hindi calendar
hi am kayden from Jamaica. do indians here celebrate Diwali and what if some one who is not an indian attends
Kayden,
Indians are most humble and generous people. Even if you are not Indian, if you respect the spirit of festival and are having healthy thoughts, you are more than invited by them to celebrate.
Hi Kayden
Diwali is celebrated where ever Indians are. Non-Indians attending Diwali celebrations are most welcome.
Kindly explain in DETAIL, the SIGNIFICANCE of the last rites performed for family members after their demise in connection for peace of their souls.

Hello Gia, Yes there is a confusion regarding the Vaikunda Ekadasi date. I have checked with various calendars and temples. There is no Vaikunta Ekadasi in December 2008. It is on 7th January 2009.
