Kali Puja 2007

Kali Puja – dedicated to Shakti – is observed mainly in Bengal and in eastern part of India. The festival coincides with Diwali celebrations and is observed on the new moon day (Maha Amavasya Tithi) in the month of Kartik (October – November). In 2007, Kali Puja is on November 9. Kali symbolically destroys ignorance and ego and clears the path to realizing ‘Brahman.’

It is believed that Kali puja removes all the distress and ushers in joy and success. In many areas, Kali puja is a community festival and huge idols of Goddess Kali is worshipped. The main rituals begin at midnight.

Special aratis and pujas are conducted on the day. Another tradition is the bursting of the crackers.

The day is also highly auspicious for tantrics and black magicians.
