Khairatabad Ganesha of 2007 to be Eco-Friendly with Natural Colors

One of the biggest Ganesh Chaturthi idols in India is made by the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsav Committee. Khairatabad Ganesha is usually more than 40 feet. For Ganesh Chaturthi 2007, the huge Ganesha idol will be coated with natural colors. A welcome move as the chemical colors are doing a lot of damage to the Hussain Sagar Lake in Hyderabad. The eco-friendly move will give impetus to other Ganesh Utsav Committees and artisans to follow suit.

The huge Khairatabad Ganesha is noted for its matt finish and it was a challenge to develop natural colors that can provide the quality of artificial or chemical colors. Shyamal Handlooms in Chirala involved in Kalamkari work was approached for natural colors and after several experiments they have come out with nine different natural colors.

Shyamal Handlooms is ready to provide eco-friendly colors to artisans and idols makers.
