Khairatabad Ganesha – The Tallest Ganesh Idol in the World

The Ganesha idol made by the Sri Ganesh Utsav Committee, Khairatabad, Hyderabad is the tallest in the world. The Ganesh idol made here averages 42 feet.

Update: - Lord Vinayaka idol installed by the Gajuwaka Sampath Vinayaka Youth Association at Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam (Vyzag) in Andhra Pradesh has broken the record of the tallest Ganesha idol for Ganesh Chaturthi Puja. It is 58 ft tall and nearly 10 inch taller than the Hyderabad Khairatabad Ganesha idol that stands at 48 feet in 2009.

Sri Ganesh Utsav Committee, Khairatabad, was founded in 1956 by Late Mr. S. Sankarayya. During Ganesh Utsav, thousands of devotees visit the largest and biggest Ganesh idol. On the 11th day, the Ganesha idol is immersed in the Hussain Sagar Lake with the help of large cranes.

This year, the Hyderabad police is requesting to reduce the height of the idol to below 10 feet as the city has several flyovers under which objects standing taller than 14 feet cannot pass. But the organizers are not ready for anything less than 40 feet.
