Dress Code Change in Guruvayur Temple Women wearing Churidar and Salwar allowed

Guruvayur Devaswom managing committee of the famous Sri Krishna Temple in Guruvayur changed the dress code and allowed women wearing churidars and pyjamas to enter the temple. Men wearing pants (trousers) and shirts are still not allowed. So are women wearing jeans and other non-Indian dresses.

Before the decision, only women wearing sari or Kerala traditional ‘mundu’ and ‘veshti’ were allowed in. The change in the outdated custom is a great relief to thousands of female devotees from India and abroad. Even majority of the young women in Kerala will find it more comfortable in churidars and salwar and kamis.

Earlier, women to enter the temple used to wear mundu over the ‘kamis’ and it used to look funny and it was a mockery of the outdated custom.

A group of people in the temple thrived due this custom by providing mundu for rent to women. The poor women devotees were often forced to wear those unclean mundu to enter the temple. Similar is the fate of men who are forced to wear the unclean mundu.

Interestingly, majority of the temples in Kerala have no dress code. No idea in which Hindu scripture it is mentioned that people with certain dress should be kept outside. Due such customs the Guruvayur Temple has alienated the common Hindus in Kerala.

In Guruvayur Temple, Lord Krishna, Sanatana Dharma and common Hindus have suffered a lot. A visit to the temple brings peace and calm to the mind but a visit to the Guruvayur Temple sadly disturbs the mind. Thanks to some individuals and their outdated tradition.

The similar outdated custom still prevails in the Sri Padmanabha Swami Temple in Trivandrum, Kerala.

To enter the four walls of the temple, we need to obey rules and regulations set by certain individuals with covert intentions. But sadly these people never realize that the four walls cannot confine Lord Krishna. He is everywhere and he smiles and plays with all the people. Next time while waiting in the queue to enter the Guruvayur Temple, look around you will find him playing all around the temple. In fact, he is playing everywhere.

I really don't know, that if God cares wht u wear, all god cares is ur love for him.

Its sad that certain group of people are acting likes God.

This shows they have no work and their brains are empty.

So much for simplicity and literacy. I hope we don't become a laughing stock for rest of the world.

If A person is gracefully dressed- i see no reason to stop him from going to the temple- its a very strange that a dress code is required- what about the connection of a soul with the god?? infact i recently visited the temple campus and was shocked to hear about this rule- if the management/priests want to maintain the sanctity of old times/traditional Belief then WHY DO THEY HAVE AIRCODTIONERS all along the back of the temple building for management rooms (which also are inside temple campus)its hipocracy!!

God is universal and above a dress code- though i support gracefull dressing (which obvisly indians follow when visitng a temple).

Guruvayoor temple claims to be Number 1 temple of Kerala. Sad that they follow rank list for GOD too. I have seen their arrogance once. This lead to me think negative about that temple. I no more go to that temple. In my view certain customs are alright for a temple but this is too much. Is it to gain attraction? I dont know. But I dislike when photos appear in news paper when dignataries like Judges or Chairman of any organisation come to pray there. Is it unusual or news that an officer is praying? Are they coming there to pray or to advertise Guruvayyor temple. Also they give news about temples monthly revenue. So proud! Prefering Aiswaryam over Eshwaran.

My Dear friends, Dress code is a necessity everywhere or else its true that the sanctity of the place does not remain the same.... Rules and regulations are a must to a certain extent becoz if we do not have some basic guidelines then u will soon have people coming to the temple in the skimpiest of outfits... thats primarily why there is a dresscode not just in the temple but also in most organisations coz what is acceptable in terms of dressing for you might not suit the said occasion in someone elses view so pl uphold some of the rules that are laid down... lets not eb judgemental as its definetly in the interest of the temple.... trust me i would not prefer seeing the underclothings of any women if she bows down in a trouser.... I am a women and raised in Goa... but i understand things better as i handle human resources and know the do's and the dont's of a dresscode.God bless...:)

My dear friends, I happen to come across the above comments... and i must admit that dress code is a must... be it a temple or otherwise. Its in the induction manual of every organisation no matter US or UK based, for a reason so lets learn to uphold the decision of the temple authorities too when it comes to such trival matters and look beyond if some great personality is being featured for XYZ reasons.

Pl don't forget that everything in this world is the will and wish of Guruvayur Appan. We might be seeing things coz he wishes us to see it:) I remembered 1 article that i read - On seeing a lady crying aloud in front of Lord Krishna in Guruvayur, the writer mentioned that his wife stated " why is this lady crying aloud and making a scean... trying to showoff" it didn't take more than a couple of minutes for the writer's wife to burst out crying to Lord krishna as their daughter went missing.... They got their daughter but also got a lesson to learn..." DON'T JUDGE.

Leave things to God and just bask in the reality that you are his special creation~!!!! God bless you :)
