Ahmedabad Rath Yatra 2007

Ahmedabad Rath Yatra, the oldest and most popular ‘ratha yatra’ in Gujarat, will be held on July 16, 2007. The ‘rath yatra’ at Ahmedabad is quite similar to the world famous Puri Jaganath Rath Yatra and is taking place for more than 125 years. The Ahmedabad Rath Yatra starts from the Jagannath temple in Jamalpur locality and passes through a 14 kilometer route.

The Rath Yatra in Ahmedabad is quite similar to the Puri Rath Yatra. Three chariots with Lord Krishna, Balrama and Subhadra are pulled by the devotees through the city. Elephants play a unique part in the festival. Another important feature is the participation of Akhada sadhus and Mahants.

On this day, Rath Yatras also take place in Bhavnagar, Vadodara, Gandhinagar, Surat and Porbandar in Gujarat.
