It was very informative reading all the info you have given abt shivling and shaligram pooja. You have mentioned that shankh shud not be used for shivling abhishek, but in tamilnadu in the month of karthika all the shiva temples do 108 shankh abhishek on all the mondays in that month. Can you explain?
KARTIK WAS MONTH OF DEATH OF SHANKH CHUD DEMON AND MARRIAGE OF HIS WIFE TULASI TO NARAYAN,BUT SINCE HE WAS NOT KILLED BY NARAYAN BUT BY LORD SHIVA TRISHUL HIS BODY WAS DISINTEGRATED INTO 108 PIECES AND THROWN AWAY IN SEA WHERE HE BECAME SHANKH OR CONCH.SINCE HE WAS AVERSE TO LORD SHIVA HE ASKED FOR BOON FROM LORD FOR HIS NEARNESS SO BOON WAS GRANTED TO HIM FOR THIS PARTICULAR MONTH ONLY WHEN HIS PUJA IS VERY MUST!!!
