Shivling or Shiva lingam connects a devotee with the Supreme Being – Lord Shiva. The lingam is the symbol of Lord Shiva and the lingam puja helps the devotee in understanding Lord Shiva. The Lord cannot be described but still we say he is without a beginning and an end and is without a form. It is difficult for a devotee to understand this formless nature. Therefore Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Jyotirlinga before Brahma and Vishnu. The Lingam thus is a symbol of Lord Shiva. Each Lingam puja, step by step, takes the devotee to the eternal truth – that he/she is part of the Supreme Being.
Worshipping Shivling at Home
Before starting the Puja, the devotee takes a bath and wear freshly washed clothes. Hymns praising Lord Shiva or the mantra ‘om namaha shivayaa’ are repeated to create a mood for worship. Then, the devotee sits in front of the lingam and blows conch or ring bells. This indicates the beginning of the Puja.
First it is the panchamrit abhishek - the libation of five holy liquids over the lingam. The libation
can consist of any five of the following – water from river Ganga , honey, sugarcane juice, milk, yogurt, ghee, seawater, coconut water or milk, fragrant oils, rose water or other precious liquids. Usually, only milk of cow is used. While pouring the liquid, om namah shivaya is uttered. Some devotees utter the Lord’s name 108 times and some 1008 times. There is no fixed rule.

After the panchamrit abhishek, the lingam is cleaned with water from Ganga . (This is might not be possible always so just normal water.) After this the lingam is smeared with sandalwood paste and is decked with flowers. Water and sandalwood paste is used to keep the lingam cool, as Lord Shiva is always in a highly inflammable state. In some Shiva temples, cooling liquid constantly drops from pot hung above the Lingam.
Next, sweets, coconut and fruits are offered to the Lord. Camphor and incense are lit and ‘arati’ is conducted. Some devotees fan the lingam and sing praises of the lord.
Finally, ringing of bells or blowing of conch indicates the end of Puja. White ash (vibhuti) is rubbed on the forehead and it is also distributed. Fruits, sweets and coconut are distributed as ‘prasad.’

To the person who can't sleep, etc-get medical help, maybe even psychological. Depending upon the root cause of the problem, maybe a psychiatric doctor will both prescribe medicines and give psychological therapy. Always go to the best doctor available . Go to a homeopathic, or ayurvedic physician or accupuncturist, if one is recommended. Meditation can be an answer but not necessarily the only solution for you. Learn the right technique for you from an expert teacher.

I have a doubt.One of my elder member of my family told me not to do abhisheka to any of the deity at home. One has to keep the home just like temple(pure).This is not possible as female memebrs are also at home and during the time of periods chances of impurity is there at home. Though I am very much interested in siva pooja at home with abhisheka I did't started.

the rituals is clear but many pandits opinion differs when giving jal. i have been told that when giving jal... the following:- water, milk and then water again.. is this wright? and the white ash.. i always smear the ash on the lingham.. again is this wright or wrong? Any comments would be great...

lingam is associated with Shiva and tulsi with Vishnu so you are worshiping both the deities together....usually it is not practiced but....i would suggest there is no problem....

There is no problem. The ideal time to do puja is morning or evening. But a true devotee can approach Shiva at anytime. He is Bholenath and he is Mahadev...he receives his devotees all the time....

It is traditional that Sri Rudram Chamakam is chanted while performing Shiva abhishekam. "Aum NamaH Shivaya" is the bija (seed) mantram of Shiva worship, representing the essence of the Rudram, but those who are versed in scripture should take joy in offering the fullness of praise contained in the entire Vedic hymn...
when it comes to shivji, there are no hard and fast rules that you should strictly perform a procedure to worship him... He is known as Bhola-Shankar 'cause He unlike most of other Gods can be appeased with just sincere mind and pure heart... you dont even need to take a bath(okay so it doesnt mean that you do all untidy things and perform puja) to worship Him...

There is this place i go to quite often,its a cliff 700 feet above see level facing the sleepy blue ocean. Since im a person who spends most of my time in air conditioned office, cars, home i feel real good when i go to this peaceful cliff. Im a natureist and when im here i stay in a thatched hut which has a huge shivling in the yard. I WISH to do pooja and decorate this holy stone according to my imagination. I would also like to ask you if there is a position in which the lingam should be kept, as in in which direction the yooni should face? Will there be a problem if i have a pond of water filled with green flowers around the stone? And i have heard about a snake who lives around and seen a white cat which frequently visit my room especially when im not around. You should face east or north while doing the shiv lingam puja, and the water from the base should be positioned to flow east or north also (not towards you, but depending on which you chose) So I face east and the water flows to my left which is North.
There are videos on youtube with Shiva lingam puja which will show you how to decorate it nicely.
The tripundra (3 lines) with white ash bhasma/vibhuti is normal then some also put a dot in the center of that with red powder sindoor/kumkum on top of turmeric (haldi).. also if you can obtain bel leaves and most flowers to decorate, and even a rudraksh mala is fine.

The way u presented pooja was very simple to do for common people.
Nature has made human beings purely vegetarian. Our digestive system is such that it cannot be digest the meat easily. So human beings should never have meat in their meal. In the scriptures, it has been recommended for devotees (Bhaktas) to always take sentient food (Saatvik Bhojan) only. The food is of three types. (i) Sentient (Saatvik) food, (ii) Mutative (Raajsik) food and (iii) Static (Taamsik) food. Sentient food is good for biological, psychic and causal or spiritual bodies. Mutative food may be good for biological and psychic bodies, but not good for causal body. Mutative food may be avoided in regular diet. The third type of food the ‘Static’ one that is neither good for biological body, nor good for psychic and the causal bodies. HENCE IT MUST NOT BE TAKEN ON ANY OCCATION.
Those who have devoted themselves to the higher pursuits of spirituality have to be purely sentient (Saatvik) in their diets. In scriptures, such people have been advised even not to have cup of tea and coffee instead milk can be taken. Tea and coffee causes stimulation. Sentient foods include -milk, milk products, flour of wheat, gram flour, rice; vegetables and pulses with less spices, without garlic and onion. Sumptuous food with so much spices is mutative. Eggs, meat, garlic, onion, mushrooms, junk foods are static (Tamsik) in nature. Static foods cause infections and diseases in the body easily. Wine, smoking is highly static and injurious to health. Hence static food must be avoided.

Since this is a blog related to Lord Shiva and Shiva Linga Puja, I have to say few words with humility and due respect to all.
One of the inquisitors in the blog has asked: “what Lingam is? ” and to my surprise, the reply given is –

So much discrimination in the name of Lord Sadashiva! For me, it is a matter of surprise - ‘Hindus’ have this type of mentality! Rather, there is need is to explain every aspect to the querying persons related to our Gods and ‘Avtaars’ and their worships, properly and happily, if asked earnestly and inquisitively. We should take it interestingly to explain about the gods (Bhagvaano ke Baare mein) of this great religion, meditation process and types of worships we have.
Lord Sadashiva 7500 years back never discriminated on any ground,- be it Religion or Racial Lineage, rather, His motive was “Aatam Mokshaartham Jagat Hitaaicha”. In the prehistoric era, He had worked for the assimilation of Aryans, Non-Aryans, Mongolians and Dravidian races and for achieving the targeted goal, He had to marry three women of different races. He (Lord Sadashiva) was a man of very open mind and no little and ignominious thought stands before Him.. Lord Sadashiva never allowed His follower (Ganas) to discriminate on any ground. This is not a hidden fact.
For detail, kindly read the book: ‘Namah Shivaya Shantaya’ authored by Shri Shri Anandamurti Ji. The writer unfolds various untold, unrecorded, unexplored and very very interesting aspects related to primitive history and Lord Sadashiva, Phallic worshipping (Linga Puja), Shiva Linga worshipping and the worships of gods and goddesses of this great religion (formerly – Vaedik /Arsha and Shaiva Cults).
Very interesting book. All must read.

I read one post here where a person is imagining that he is performing a shiva pooja on the shivalinga. That is a wonderful imagination. In these fast forward times when you leave home at 6:00 am or even erlier and by the time you get back it is late, the best time to do shiva puja, I have found is while you are driving. If you can listen to music/or talk radio, you can surely listen to this stotram that you can either get on the internet or in some Indian grocery stores that sell also CD's and DVD's. It is called SHIV MANAS PUJA. It is really an imaginary puja of shivji where you have nothing to physically offer except your mind and your ears for listening. It is a great way where you can say that I imagine Shivji in a great gold and precious stones laded temple giving the Linga a bath of Gangajal and offering the most fragrant flowers, chandan lep, dancing with music played by kinnaras and gandharvas and then offering the most wonderfully cooked pakwaans and finally offering a tambul (like the paan people eat in northern India after a good meal) and then offering the resting/sleeping. In my immediate next post I am pasting the lyrics of the Shiv Manas Pooja with meaning, that has been obtained from 'Scribd' so that credit goes to Scribd or the person who placed this information there.

One small correction,Pancha Amrita is the comination of - Water,Honey,Cow's Milk,Cow's Ghee and Cow's Yogurt.
Performing this Shiva pooja for 11 continous Mondays specifically in Rahu Kaala (7:30 AM to 9 AM) would remove even the Brahmana Saapa ! As everyone knew,the other best time to worship Shiva is during Pradosha.This is the suggested remedy for Brahmana Saapa.Please make a note that Sri Rama did the same in Rameshwaram !!!

I am no expert but from what I have researched, Rahu afflictions are also lessened by prayers to Durga Maa, such as Chandi path etc or other simpler methods may be done, also prayers to Venkateshwara / Balaji may help.
For the kal sarp issue, please consult a qualified jyotish. Until this is done maybe you can acquire a kal sarp yantra to be worshipped and also do Santan Gopal stotra "Devakisutam Govindam Vasudevam Jagatpatim, Dehime Tanayam Krishna twam-aham Sharanagatah" and Garbha Raksha stotras which can be found on celextel.org. Please do all of these things with faith.

For the childless couple: It is very disheartening not to get something when we desire it, & the same is true of children. I believe that there is a right time for everything, but it may not be when we think it is. I know people who did the Sanyaan Govind Mantra for 5 years, before they conceived naturally without any medical interventions. You must do the MAntra with full belief, & a positive mind. I believe our doubt creates the biggest block. Also, a question. Can one eat 1 regular Satvic meal on Monday fast beside the phalahaar? How many times can one eat salt on Monday fast?

Also is tthis ok: First thing in morning'I would bathe, clean clothes, do prayers + and send prayers for the type of husband I wish for. Also incorporate saying 'om nameh shivaye' through out my day. 2)since the energy(siva) is hot, pouring water tht makes cool,why to cool? since our body too have heat & more than 70% water, throug water only we have to attain the super conciousnous that why all the hindu temples are loacated near the river/ near flowing water based places.thik & find your self WATER & Heat& linga pooja are inseperable to attain the super conciouseous find yourself.....

First of all I would like to say thanks for a good description of Pooja. But my question remain as it is that 'Can we really keep Shiv Lingam at home (in Pooja Room)?' My wife says that one should not keep Shiva Lingam at home. Because Lord Shiva like peaceful places like dense forest and abandon places. I asked her if that is true then why we keep Shiva Lingam at temples to this she replied that that is the place given to Lord Shiva and is a holy place. I'm confused please clarify.

Is there any objection to keep Radha-krishna Idol in home and Shiva-Parvati idol @ home?please reply. I ve started doing somvar Brat from 6th June 2011. First somvar i kept fast only with fuits. but this monday( 13th June 2011) I had one time meal without onion and garlic and night time with only fruits but I forgot to read the Somvar VratKaatha. Is there any harm. I am doing for a peaceful married life and to gain trust of my husband which is lost. can anybody help????

In small houses we have very small wooden/marbel temples. If water is poured in Shiv linga it will spread in mandir, so can we take Linga out of the Mandir and do the abishek and then place it again in Mandir and offer flowers etc or should the Mandir be designed in such a way that you do not move the Linga and other gods but, the abhishek water must flow out.
Similarly, I do Abhisket of other gods also like Sri Ganesh, Bal Krishna, Mata Laxmi etc by placing them in taman(copper plate) and after washing them with Ganga water I place them in Mandir and offer flowers etc. Is this the right process.
Can you please also advice if instead of Shiv-linga can be keep Ek Muki Rudraska and if yes then how to offer Puja to Rudraksha.

I am married for 2 years. I ve got a very good, Loving and understanding. He s very matured but i m very childish. He always does the right things for me but i never listen. Now our relationship is in danger. I ve told him such statements for which he s totally changed his mind and saying he nomore loves me. But I realised my faults wholeheartedly and asked him for his forgiveness. But he s not able to trust me. I am praying god for forgiveness and to give my husband back. but its being one and half months I am suffering. Everyday I am crying and praying to God to console and to forgive me and to give my husband back. For this I ve started doing Monday fasts. I am chanting " Om Namah Shivaya", Om Lakhmi Ganapataye Namaha, and "Om aing hring cling chamundaya biche" 108 times daily twice and "Om Kamadevaya bidmahe,pushpabanaya dhimahi..tannonangaa prachodayat" either 21 times or 108 time twice daily. But I found no result . Can anybody please help and suggest me something good which I can bring my husband back??? I am worried. I can't concentrate my work as we are staying away from each other I miss him like anything. I want things to be get normal as previously it was. Please help.. I am helpless..

I am not a an expert in all these things, but I like to suggest something...
You are doing very good job. Meditating gods name is THE BEST in every situation. Unlike some people practice wrong habits to overcome sorrows.
Keep doing what you are doing, someday God will listen to your prayers and he'll bless you with all the love and happiness you are anticipating. But, don't just pray for happiness. Pray because you love God and to show you right path, God listen more when you pray without any expectations from him.
To above I would suggest when you fast on Mondays go to Shiva temple and offer him panchamrut and do some dan...even sweets to some kids are enough. Secondly, you can also do fasting on Sankasti Chaturti that comes once a month. Break the fast only after Moon rise.
I won't suggest but, if you need you can contact some GOOD Astrologer too..
Sometimes TIME is the only solution to all problems. Keep Faith in God and Be happy!!!

Firstly, You must empty your mind, if your mind is not empty God won't recite in you mind. Mediate so deeply that you forget the world around. Counting the mantras makes your meditation ineffective. Keep chanting mantras till your mind is filled with all the love and devotion for The LORD.
Secondly, If you miss your husband so baldly write him emails, don't write just that you are sorry but, how much you love him, along with all edar-udhar ki bate. It might take time but, he will respond someday and you'll live happily with your husband..

I read in some vastu posts that if you don't have seperate room for Pooja but, you must have a small Mandir prefarably on NE corner of the house. But this place will also be shared by Women in during menstrual cycle or if members eat non-veg or couples having sexual activities. Hence the pooja place must have curtains or doors closed after prayers/puja.
I still have this question as to why womens cannot use pooja place during their menstrual cycle? Since we believe God has created us and he gave power to womens to give Birth, then why Womens are restricted from going to mandirs and poojas during menstrual cycle. Having sex or mastabation can be controlled, but why womens cannot use pooja place during their menstrual cycle as this is monthly cycle and which cannot be avoided. You will get mysterious answers to this question.
My opinion is if your mind is pure nothing stops you from praying God under any circumstances. Hence chanting mantras during periods can be done if your mind is pure.

Thanks for all your advices on this blog. I always wanted to do shiv abishekh at home but, my parents tolds me it should not be done. But, now I have brought a Bana linga with yoni stand from Astroshastra.com
I have a small doubt, in modern houses usually people don't have seperate rooms for pooja. They have small pooja place made of Wood/marble.
Abhishek in the Mandir would make the place unclean, so how exactly we do abhishek.
1- Take only Bana Linga out of Mandir do the Abhishek and keep it back on Yoni stand in Mandir or
2- while doing abhishek Yoni is also required with Bana Linga or
3- Bana Linga must be kept on Yoni in a small dish in the Mandir and do the abishek, then should the abhishek water/panchamrut must remain there in mandir for the whole day or should be taken out and offered to trees.
For all other gods like Ganesha, Bal krishna I take them out of the mandir in a copper plate and do the abhishek and place it back in Mandir and offer abhishek water to Tulsi tree.

In Hotels or where immediately specified vessels are not avilable,You can use even PLASTIC or China plate base to KEEP LORD SHIVA with NAG-YONI intact for abhishekam,except STEEL/IRON...but ensure water do not get under anybodys feet.

Hi.. I want to do Shravvan somvar vrat. But as I am staying in hostel I can't follow the rituals of the puja or vrat. only thing I can keep fast..So is it possible to do this pooja only by means of fast and little danam..Pls advice..
I have a big black stone shivling at home. The ling is aboout 6" in height(12"with the base). I have not done any sthapana nor do regular pooja, but it is placed in a corner of the room with a rudraksha mala, since many years and I just recite some prayer for a few mins. in front of the ling. I have been having all sorts of problems in life. Is it inaupiscious to have this type of ling at home?Is it required to do a regular pooja ritual everyday if one has a ling at home, even if there is no sthapana done? Kindly let me know, what are your views about this and pl. suggest what can I do about it. Thanks for your help.

But today one of my friend told that we should not worship the idols of God made up of sand. I am worshiping since last 5 years in my room(hostel). Even in my home there is a radh a-krishna idol gifted by my friend for my marriage and i am worshiping. Is there any harm..Please suggest. Normal Idols made up of anything are not considered for puja as per HINDU Rites till PRAN-PRATHISTA is not done in them,they are Oranamental Values and you need not to do full PUJA for them (16 STEPS).Just do MANASIK PUJA (MENTAL ASSUMPTION) of them and put flowers etc and thanks giving to them.
1. Only NARMADESHWAR LINGAM and ORIGINAL GANDAKI RIVER SHALIGRAM are blessed to give Full PUJA EFFECTS and need not to have PRAN-PRATHISTHA( Putting a live part of Soul of particular GOD) in them.
2.You can IMMERSE all sand idols after doing their mental puja with asking prayer AAHWANAM NA JANAMI NAJANAMI VISAARJANAM,PUJA KARM NA JANAMI SHAMYANTAM PARMESHWARAM OR PARMESHWARI,mantra heenam kriya heenam Bhakhtiheenam sureshwaram/sureshwari YAT pujitayam maya KSHAMYANTAM PARMESHWARAM/PARMESHWARI... as deemed fit, to excuse any of your fault knowingly or unknowingly....immerse them in any Flowing RIVER or Sea.

I have a query..We have Bana Linga at home. Now that I am moving into a nuclear family. I want to move the Bana Linga to my new house. I have following doubts:
Any specific procedure to move the Bana Linga from one house to another.
Secondly, will it be any curse to people living in my old house. Since my brother would be staying there, but, unfortunately he's not interested in offering pooja.
In the same way I might move other gods aswell since I am the one who offer pooja daily to these gods hence please advice on above.

I have One Shiv Ling, which My grandfather brought for me from River Narmada. It is with me since last 20+ years and I almost worship it daily and clean it with Milk and Water. Normally I take it along with me if I am on holidays and I put it in a cloth pouch. Is it okie?
Also, sometimes I do miss putting water on the shiv ling spl if I am out for a day etc.
Now my main concern is as follows. Now I moved to Canada and living in a condominium, and here because of few restrictions (extreme Cold etc) I am cleaning the Shiv Ling in the Kitchen Sink. Is it okie?
Interestingly, At my home town and then in New delhi, I use to wash Shiv ling in a potted Tulsi plant. and after some time, leaves which get wet during cleaning of Shiv Linga use to dry. My grand father and uncle noticed that and told me to use empty Pot. Is it power of Shiv Ling? I heard that anything offered to Shiv ji cannot be consumed by any other being. May be that is why plant use to dry where ever I clean Shiv Ling.
Well while wiriting this I got answer to one of my question, I can use pot without any plant in canada well. :-)

Shri Ganesh AND any one of Durga/Parvati/Laxmi is most BASIC,BEST Idols to worship for all.
Just offer DURVA GRASS TO GANESHJI and BEL-PATRA to Laxmi...never this two to DURGAJI or PARVATI-AMMA except GUDHAAL (CHINA ROSE) flower to all of them IS GOOD.
Any POOJA without flowers is only less than HALF.

Actually I stopped putting Shiv ling water in Tulsi long back (15yr back) as instructed by my grandfather, once he noticed drying leaves on that particular side where I use to put water everyday.
After that I always used other plants in the pot. and recently I used Kitchen sink, which I'll definitely stop now.

My another doubt is I heard Ganesh with Right side trunk must not be kept at home. I have a small Photo of Siddivinayak Ganapati of Prabhadevi. I offer daily pooja and stotras to the photo along with 3 more idols of ganesh(left side trunk) in my Pooja Mandir.
Shall I immerse Right-trunk ganesh in lake? Any specific process?
Is is okay to keep 3 idols of Ganesha in home mandir?

PHOTO OF SHRI-SIHIVINAYAK IS VERY GOOD BUT DO NOT USE IT IN YOUR PUJA /MANDIR. IDOL OF SHRI SIDHHI-VINAYAK WITH RIGHT SIDED TRUNK IS VERY POWERFUL AND SHOULD BE BETTER AVOIDED AS YOU CANNOT PERFORM ALL REQUISITE PUJA ETC AT HOME AND UNKNOWINGLY INVITE WRATH OF VERY POWERFUL AND SAFE GOD.

If Shaligram represents Vishnu what is significance of different types of Shaligram like Laxmi, ganesh, kuber, shiv-parvati and many are combination of same. Is this just a selling technique?
Similarly, Rudraksha represents Shiva but, again there is Rudraksha for every god.
BanaLinga and Shaligram are very famous why not others, I mean they are not found of sale on the net.
Lastly, shall I immerse my Siddivinayak photo in Lake? Do I have to follow any specific day/procedures?

I have kept the Lina and yoni on a small copper plate, I follow above instruction you have mentioned but, I don't remove the abhishek water immediately, instead I pour the same to plants next morning before pooja. Any harm in keeping abhishek water at home for whole day?
Secondly, Sharavan mass is begining, on Calender on mondays there is Shivamooth, the first is rice, second monday til, third Moog and forth Javas. Is it offered to Banalingas? what is the significance of these grains?

SHIVA-MUTH is not must for GENTS,After marriage for five years ladies submit 'Shivamuth' on Shivling on every Monday in Shrawan. It is an 'abhishek', not with water or 'panchamrut' but with different pulses & cereals.
For each Monday a cereal is decided.
On first Monday in Shrawan 'Shivamuth' should be of rice.
On second Monday it is of sesame. On third Monday green moong and on fourth Monday it should be of jawas.
Ladies hold these cereals in closed hand forming a 'muth' (fist) and submit 'abhishek' of it on Shivling

One day, Vishnu found out that his Valamburi Shankha (right handed) had disappeared. He felt himself very annoyed. After some time, he heard the typical sound of a conch far away and recognized immediately that it was his own instrument. The sound came from the Mount Kailash.
He meditated on Lord Shiva who came in front of him and declared that if he wanted to get his conch back, he had first to address a invocation to god Valamburi Ganesh (a Ganesh form with a right-turned trunk).
Thus, Vishnu performed the puja and Ganesh sent back the conch to his owner who was very happy to recover it.

Tulsi is Laxmi and hence it has to be with Shaligram which is the form of Vishnu..Right?
The origin of Ganga was from the toe nail of Lord Vishnu and when she was asked to come down to earth, in fear that she might flood the earth Lord Shiva accepted her in his matted hair to reduce her speed. That's why Ganga-jal is offered to Shiva?
Again Ganga meets Lord Vishnu in sea.
So, just chilled water from Shanka to Shaligram with Tulsi on top . And for all other gods the purified water can be used.

I need one advice..One of my relatives has serious problem..Like continuous sickness, financial problems, Jobless young son(33 yrs old) and unmarried daughter(30)..I don't know from where but, they found they have been cursed or shall I say "karni" as we say in Marathi by someone. They tried changing houses and astrology but nothing worked out.
I was planning to gift them BanaLinga and a Shaligram. which I think if I explain them, will perform daily pooja with faith..Do you think that can free them with all problems? Any other suggestions?

"Wherever there are Saligrama stones, Lord Hari Himself exists. And wherever Lord Hari is, Goddess Laksmi and all the holy places also exist.

"If it is yellow, evils and afflictions.

"If one observes vows, offers gifts, consecrates a temple, performs sraddha or funeral ceremonies, or worships the demigods before the Saligrama sila--all these acts become highly exalted.
"If one worships the Saligrama sila, one acquires the merits of bathing in all the tirthas (holy rivers) and being initiated into all the Vedic sacrifices.
"Furthermore, one acquires all the merits acquired by performing all the Vedic sacrifices by visiting all the holy places, by fulfilling vows, by practicing all austerities and by reading all the Vedas.
"Whoever performs his abhiseka (bathing) ceremony always with Salagrama water--being sprinkled with this water at the initiation and installation ceremonies--acquires the spiritual merits gained by offering all sorts of gifts and walking around the entire earth.
"Without a doubt, the demigods are pleased with the person who daily worships the Salagrama sila. He becomes so holy that even all the holy places desire his touch. He becomes a jivanmukta (liberated while in his physical body) and very godly. Ultimately he goes to Vaikuntha and serves Lord Hari there eternally. Any sin, such as the killing of a brahmana, flies away from him just as snakes flee at the sight of Garuda (Lord Visnu's eagle carrier). The earth is consecrated by the dust of his feet. By his birth, he redeems one hundred thousand of his ancestors.
"Anyone who, while dying, drinks the Salagrama sila water, will be freed from all his sins and go to Vaikuntha. He becomes completely freed from the effects of karma (material action and reaction) and, without a doubt, becomes forever absorbed in the vision of Lord Visnu's feet.
"Anyone who lies while holding the Saligrama in his hands goes to Kumbhipaka hell for as long as Lord Brahma is alive (311
trillion and 40 billion earth years).
"If one breaks his promise while holding the Saligram in his hand, he goes to the Asipatra hell for one hundred thousand manvantaras.
"He who worships the Saligram sila without offering Tulasi leaves on it, or who separates the leaves from the stone, will have to suffer separation from his wife in his next birth.
"And if one does not offer the Tulasi leaves in a conch, he remains without his wife for seven births and becomes diseased.
"He who maintains the Saligrama sila, the Tulasi, and the conch in one place, becomes very dear to Lord Narayana.
Whoever worships Tulasi Devi with her eight names and their meanings--Vrinda, Vrindavani, Visvapavani, Visvapujita, Tulasi, Puspasara, Nandini, and Krsna Jivani--and properly sings this hymn of eight verses, acquires the merit of performing an Asvamedha (horse) sacrifice.
Because Tulasi was born on the lunar day of the full moon in the month of Kartika, Lord Hari prescribed this day for her worship.
Whoever worships her on this day will be freed from all sins and go to Vaikuntha.
Whoever, out of reverence, gives Lord Visnu a Tulasi leaf in the month of Kartika, will gain the same benefit obtained by giving the gift of ten million cows.
By hearing or recalling the Tulasi hymn, a son will be born to the sonless woman, a wife will be obtained by the wifeless man, health will be restored to a diseased person, freedom will be given to a prisoner, fearlessness will be bestowed upon the terrified, and salvation will be given to the sinners.
In the Kanva Sakha branch of the Vedas, the method of worshiping and meditating on Tulasi Devi is described. Without invoking the goddess, one can reverentially meditate on her and adore her with sixteen ingredients in the following way:
"Of all flowers, Tulasi is the best. She is worshipable and beautiful, and burns up the fuel of sins like a flame of fire. Of all the goddesses, she is the most sacred. Because no one can compare to her, she is called Tulasi. I worship this goddess who is entreated by all. She is placed on the heads of all, desired
by all, and makes the universe holy. She bestows liberation from this world and devotion to Lord Hari. I worship her."
After this meditation and worship, the wise should read her praises and bow down to her.
As soon as Tulasi Devi quit her physical body, this body became the Gandaki River; and Lord Hari manifested Himself as the mountain on the bank of that river, giving spiritual merit to the people. The worms on that mountain cut and fashion, i.e. construct, various kinds of stones. Those that fall into the river and assume the color of clouds, without a doubt, yield results; but those that drop onto the dry land become brown by the sun's rays and unfit for worship.
The Lord then began to praise His glorious devotee. "The Tulasi trees collect in many groups, thus the pandits call it Vrinda. I praise that dear Tulasi. Long ago she appeared in the Vrindavana forest and is thus known as Vrindavani. I adore that auspicious and glorious one. She is always worshiped in countless universes and so is known as Visvapujita--one who is worshiped throughout the world. I worship that Visvapujita.
"Countless universes are made pure and holy by her contact. She is therefore called Visvapavani--one who purifies the whole universe. Remembering her, I am suffering from separation from her. Though other flowers be heaped upon the demigods, they are not satisfied unless Tulasi is offered. Thus she is considered the essence of all flowers and is called Puspasara. Now I am anguished and troubled and very eager to see her--she who is purity incarnate. I crave the favor of that goddess. Because attainment of her brings faith and joy, she is called Nandini. O may she be pleased with Me. In the whole world she is incomparable, thus she is called Tulasi. I take refuge of that dear Tulasi. Very chaste and dear, she is the life of Krsna and so is known as Krsnajivani. O may that goddess save my life."
After Lord Hari finished the ceremony and prayers, Tulasi was pleased and came out of the tree. She immediately took refuge at Lord Hari's lotus feet. He blessed her by saying, "O Tulasi, you will be worshiped by all throughout the world. Dearest, I will hold you on my head and in my heart; and all the demigods will hold you on their heads."
When Lord Hari saw that the dignified Tulasi was weeping because her feelings had been hurt by Sarasvati, He clasped her to His breast, took her to Sarasvati and reconciled their differences. Then He blessed Tulasi, saying, "You will be worshiped by all, honored by all and respected by all. And all will carry you on their heads. I also will worship, honor and respect you and carry you on My head."
Tulasi was now very happy. Sarasvati then embraced her and seated her by her side. Laksmi and Ganga, smiling, also hugged her, and then took her home

1. We have two ganesh ji picture(one is with saraswati & laksmi ji and one is with Shiv ji pariwar ), So please suggest me the picture of two ganesh is good for worship in home temple. And you suggested me that "one ganeshji facing in southern direction and bajranbali idol,your house will be sealed from any untoward obstacles." So what we do now and where do we place picture of ganesh ji. Now both picture are facing west direction.
2. Do we buy Shaligram and narmada Shivlingm From www.futurepoint.co.in website.
3. Which mantra do we chant for Shudhi (bhumi dosh)? Where do we spread this holy water, i mean where, is that a particular place or
everywhere in house? And this process should continue for how long (how many days or a single day)?
4. On Sankranti, Dwadashi Amavashya, Purnima, Sunday...we cannot pour water in tulsi ji, in that case how can we pour water to shaligram on
these days?

1.02 ganeshji are GOOD in TEMPLE/House,SHIV PARIVAR IN TEMPLE and LAXMI/SARSWATI GANESH on working/business TABLE,else in Dining Room,FACING EAST OR WEST.In temples use IDOL,s not PHOTO, IDOL of ASTHDHATOO or SILVER are Good.
2.BUY SHALIGRAM only from known reliable sources as this websites are MONEY MINTERS and may give you Defective puja items.
3.On this days you can offer water to SHALIGRAM only thru SHANKH as only plucking of TULSI LEAVES or touching is to be avoided.Watering TULASI as plant is okay but PUJA is avoided on this days. Never offer water to tulasi without taking bath or in unclean ways,drinks , non-veg, Menses etc.
Do you think in hot Summers you will allow TULASI to dry if you do not offer water even for one day.

Place one GANESH photo on your exterior of SOUTH FACING WALL,if it is not there then any SOUTH DIRECTION FACING WALL, means when photo is place on wall it should FACE south direction only. Same is with BAJRANGBALI...best is PANCH-MUKHI,else standing Bajrangbali with GADAA on Shoulder or in Front is OKAY...but I will suggest PANCH-MUKHI...HANUMAN... you can NICELY PRINT IT ON PHOTO PAPER AFTER COPYING FROM WEB THEN LAMINATE IT and get it PUNCHED for attaching the STRINGS.

BHOOMI SHUDHHI
According to Hindu culture, the earth is considered to be a mother. Before beginning any auspicious event, Bhoomi poojan or worshipping the earth is a must.
Things required
1. A vessel full of Ganges water 2. Leaves of mango 3. Flowers, roli, grains of rice 4. Turmeric 5. Betel nut 6. Durba grass 7. Kalava (red thread) The place where Bhoomi poojan is conducted is cleaned and purified. Then the following rituals take place.
1. Shatkarm- The persons performing Bhoomi pooja are made to do shatkarma - Pavitrikaran, Aachaman, Shikhavandan, Pranayam, Najas and Prithivi poojan
2. Sankalp- Rice grains, flower petals, water are given in the hands of those performing the ritual. They offer it to the Bhoomi while reciting the shlokas.
3. Devi poojan- The mother goddess is invoked.
4. Bhoomi abhishinchan- To purify the place, pure water or Ganges water is sprinkled with the help of mango leaves or flowers. Mantras are recited.
5. Pran pratishtha and poojan- Rice grains and flower petals are sprinkled on the earth by using the right hand. Mantras are recited.
6. Manglik dravya sthapna- after the poojan, auspicious things is put inside the Bhoomi or earth. First the objects with which the earth has to be dug are worshipped by anointing them with roli. Rice grains and flowers are then offered. A small pit is then dug IN EPICENTER OF PLOT. Auspicious things like turmeric, durba grass, betel nuts, kalava, and rice grains are put inside the pit.

The Skanda Purana also says that shalagrama-shilas do not require installation. When one begins the worship of shalagrama-shila, however he should start with elaborate puja using all articles. The worship of shalagrama-shila is the best form of worship, better than the worship of the sun.
The Gautamiya Tantra says devotees should take the caranamrita mixed with Tulasi leaves from the shalagrama-shila in their hand and sip it, sprinkling the balance on their heads. If somebody refuses this caranamrita it is as if he has killed a brahmana. The Padma Purana explains that all those holy rivers awarding moksha, such as the Ganga, Godavari, and others, reside in the caranamrita of shalagrama-shila.
In the Sammohana Tantra it is written that shalagrama-shila should not be placed on the earth or ground and worshiped. The Shrimad Bhagavatam mentions that in the worship of shalagrama-shila it is unnecessary to call the Lord for worship or request Him to return His abode upon completion.
The Brihan-naradiya Purana warns that if one worships a shalagrama-shila and doesn't offer Tulasi leaves, then his house is considered equal to cremation ground. There Shri Narada Muni says it's impossible to explain the importance of Tulasi leaves in the worship of shalagrama-shila, as Tulasi is the most beloved consort of Hari in the form of shalagrama-shila.
In the Skanda Purana Lord Shiva tells Parvati that one who takes the caranamrita of shalagrama-shila destroys all sinful reactions at their roots, even the killing of a brahmana. Elsewhere the Skanda Purana states that by taking the remnants of foodstuffs offered to shalagrama-shila, one will get the result of performing many sacrifices.
Note:The worshipper of Shaligram must keep the leaves of Tulsi beside a Shaligram or it must be put in the pot in which grows the Tulsi plant because Shaligram without Tulsi is regarded incomplete, as described in scriptures.

The Lord resides in many places in which he may be worshipped, but of all places Salagrama is the best. (Skanda Purana)

With Keshava in the form of Salagrama sila reside all the devatas, asuaras, yaksas and the fourteen worlds.(Padma Purana) However having said all that, there are verses encouraging the worship and service of Lord Siva for Vaishnavas as mentioned and collected in Hari Bhakti Vilas: such as in the Shivaratri information and observances herein:

Yajna Koti Samam Punyam Gavam Koti Phalam Bhavet ||
Lord Siva spoke to Skanda, his son, saying that any person who has seen Salagram Sila, paid obeisances to Him, bathed and worshipped Him, has achieved the results of performing ten million sacrifices and giving ten million cows in charity. (HARI BHAKTI VILASA 5/384 from SKANDA PURANA)

(Lord Siva speaks to his son, Skanda) In this mortal world, if anyone does not worship Salagram Sila, I do not at all accept any of their worship and obeisances.(HARI BHAKTI VILASA 5/396 from SKANDA PURANA)
What I think is the most important thing to worship lord Shiva or any lord is bhakti and dedication and not only worship for any work in ur life u have to have dedication to do it sucessfully .......and mere bhole baba toh bahut bhole hai ....read ny where any where that bhole baba to rukhi sukhi roti chadne se bhi kuch ho jate hai ......see go also becomes happy whn u do some thing for him like fasting and jalabhishek and the brahmins have always mislead the HINDUS so guys plzz believe in life not books .....if some one is dying then will u go n search in religious book whether u shud save him or not ??? if u r a good human being then u will save tht guy by taking himm hospital tht is puja .....karma se bada kuch nahi ha bhakti is above then karma but look at ravana he was a very big bhakt of Lord Shiva but his karma made him a villian ...so bhakti and karma both r essential if ur karma is gud u will never face ny problems in life bcos of this janam but may be cos of previous janam but helping poor (those who cannot beg or who can )and just a mala of om namah shivah: will do so have a gud karma and do puja to remove the bad things tht v did in previous life and feed animals like cow ,dogs..etc cos its our duty ..I am not a brahmin ....as my father was not but i strongly believe its not a family thing as my father is an engineer and i am a MBA so its not compulsory tht i will be a engineer 2 in the same way a brahmin also cannot give birth to brahmin though given good sanskar's he cud be a gud brahmin ...the rakshash's ,human ...every thing in this world is made by god so the thing which is made by god can never be bad ....mnany worship bharav baba to who is considered to be a rakshash...its all ur karma's and if god wanted a particular community not to worship him then he wyd have not given mouth so tht he cud take his name no ears so tht he cud not hear his name...plz BRAHMINS brother spread equality not hatred tht u have been doing all this time see other religions how they r growin and hinduism is at decline cos of ur bad teaching .....Manuwadis still don't let some ppl to enter temple's...GUYS WAKE UP ....god has made us human so tht v can worship him and cud reach NIRVANA so dont go to some false teaching's and worship lord together....OM NAMAH SHIVAH

SECONDLY THEY MAY BE THINKING OF THAT IF PEOPLE START DOING CROSS PRACTICE THEY WERE WASTING UNNECESSARILY TRAINING COSTS AND IT WAS EASY TO RETAIN VALUES WHICH PREVAILED IN FAMILIES.THAT MAY BE THE REASON OUR ANCESTORS MIGHT HAVE THOUGHT,BUT IT WAS DISTORTED BY FEW GREEDY AND SCRUPULOUS FELLOWS TO do their Ulloo sidhaa.
LORD SHIVA IS THAT GR8 GOD WHO NEVER EVEN DIFFERENTIATED IN GOD'S AND RAKSHA'S AND GAVE EVERYBODY BOON WITH EQUALITY.HE LOVES PURE DEVOTION AND DUTIES.
AS FAR AS THE KARMA ARE CONCERNED THAT WAS VERY MUCH CLEARED BY LORD KRISHNA THAT KARMANAYE...MEANS WHAT EVER YOU DO DO WITH PURE DEVOTION AND THAT IS YOUR PUJA...NOT THINKING OF DOING HARM OF OTHERS AND GREED,JEALOUSY WHICH DO NOT ALLOW YOU TO PROSPER IN LONG RUN.
DO SEVA OF DESTITUTE,DOWN TRODDEN,POOR,HUNGRY,SUFFERING FROM ILLNESS AND ANYBODY IN DISTRESS YOU WILL ALWAYS GET POSITIVE RESULT.PARENTS DEEDS GOOD OR BAD ARE PAID OR REAPED BY 03 GENERATIONS SO THAT EVEN AFTER DEATH HIS SOUL ENJOY OR SUFFER WITH GLOOM BY WATCHING HIS SUCCESSORS CONDITION THIS IS TRUE AS WORD OF GOD IN ALL RELIGIONS.
THERE IS NO WORD LIKE CASTE AND CREED IN ANY OF OUR PRESTIGIOUS TEXTS.THIS BIMAAREE HAS SPREAD LATER ON.
