Shivling or Shiva lingam connects a devotee with the Supreme Being – Lord Shiva. The lingam is the symbol of Lord Shiva and the lingam puja helps the devotee in understanding Lord Shiva. The Lord cannot be described but still we say he is without a beginning and an end and is without a form. It is difficult for a devotee to understand this formless nature. Therefore Lord Shiva appeared in the form of Jyotirlinga before Brahma and Vishnu. The Lingam thus is a symbol of Lord Shiva. Each Lingam puja, step by step, takes the devotee to the eternal truth – that he/she is part of the Supreme Being.
Worshipping Shivling at Home
Before starting the Puja, the devotee takes a bath and wear freshly washed clothes. Hymns praising Lord Shiva or the mantra ‘om namaha shivayaa’ are repeated to create a mood for worship. Then, the devotee sits in front of the lingam and blows conch or ring bells. This indicates the beginning of the Puja.
First it is the panchamrit abhishek - the libation of five holy liquids over the lingam. The libation
can consist of any five of the following – water from river Ganga , honey, sugarcane juice, milk, yogurt, ghee, seawater, coconut water or milk, fragrant oils, rose water or other precious liquids. Usually, only milk of cow is used. While pouring the liquid, om namah shivaya is uttered. Some devotees utter the Lord’s name 108 times and some 1008 times. There is no fixed rule.

After the panchamrit abhishek, the lingam is cleaned with water from Ganga . (This is might not be possible always so just normal water.) After this the lingam is smeared with sandalwood paste and is decked with flowers. Water and sandalwood paste is used to keep the lingam cool, as Lord Shiva is always in a highly inflammable state. In some Shiva temples, cooling liquid constantly drops from pot hung above the Lingam.
Next, sweets, coconut and fruits are offered to the Lord. Camphor and incense are lit and ‘arati’ is conducted. Some devotees fan the lingam and sing praises of the lord.
Finally, ringing of bells or blowing of conch indicates the end of Puja. White ash (vibhuti) is rubbed on the forehead and it is also distributed. Fruits, sweets and coconut are distributed as ‘prasad.’

I wanted to add to information about flowers-
Champa is the name used for many kind of Champas. Michaelia Champaka mentioned here is Apoorva Champa also known as Hari Champa(flowers are green initially and turn yellow later). It is offered in temples whereever it grows and is actually considered very good,personal experience from visiting numerous south Indian temples.Champa name is also used for Plumeria or Frangipani and commonly offered to gods and also planted in Cemeteries depending on your faith-Hindu vs Buddhist.I have also seen it being offered in temples,specially south Indian.
Pipal is not supposed to be planted in home gardens.Also Bael is very thorny and not available everywhere,nor can grow everywhere.
Ketaki flower is not to be used for Shiva puja, I am not sure if it is forbidden for any other puja.
Tulsa ji is for Vishnu puja only.There is a festival where Tulsa ji is married to God Vishnu/Krishna .and thus considered his consort.
Hence just like a woman's home has place only for her husband,I think Tulsi pot is for Vishnuji or Krishna Ji only.
When you have pure heart,any mistakes are forgiven by the gods,even the wrong offering. You will not be punished by god for it. The flowers that are forbidden are just not accepted by God. I think you can use example of a child going to mother and bringing her wrong item. Mother will not punish the child,she will just not take the wrong item.

O' Sleepless Bhai. Shiva pooja has nothing to do with curing your sleeplessness. Simply put, you are suffering from SLEEP APNIA. Have yourself tested by a qualified doctor for it, and let him prescribe treatment for SLEEP APNIA. You are asking too much from Lord Shiva. He has more important things to take care of, like performing TANDAV on the heads of the corrupt ministers and beaureaucrats in Indian government, save Ganga from Polutants and those who are poluting it, and so on. With what is going on in India, even the Lord is having sleepless nights at Mount Kailash. That is why you are seeing all the earthqauakes and floods and hurricanes all over India and even the world. He is so tired that even he took Ganga Mata's sharan last year, when his Moorti in Haridwar got washed away in stormy Ganga. So if you do what you are supposed to do about your Sleep Apnia, then the Lord will have some time to take rest between the sessions of Tandav.

Hope you are doing good. After along time I am writing in this blog. This is a very good blog and I do really appreciate it. long back (In the month of June 2011) I had started blogging. That time I was running through a very difficult stage of life being mentally and physically apart from my husband. For that I had started keeping Monday Fast with only fruits. By Shivji's grace I had overcome the problem and now me and my husband are together same as before. I am really grateful to God for giving me the opportunity of leading a good family life with my husband. And there are some other problems related to my work also got solved to some extent for which I was struggling since last 5 years of my study.Currently I am in US with my husband. And I am still continuing the Monday fast as before. But only thing I am unable to go Shiv temple as there s no temple near by and within the locality. I ve picture of shiv lingam along with Sri sai baba and a idol of Ganesh ji made up of silver. everyday i offer puja but only with some fruits as we can't light dia and incense sticks as its not allowed over here. I m not even offering water and flower to my God. Is there any harm in doing so?? I am just praying my God for well being of others and mine too..
But I ve a query. Can I make my fast with one time food without onion and garlic, milk with corn flakes or is there any harm in doing in the middle. Please suggest.
Also suggest how to get determination and devotion for my Ph.D work which is left incomplete. I want to complete it within a month. Because of my negligence I am unable to complete it and m not getting determination for this. But I want to complete it as soon as possible may be within a month i want to complete it from my side. My guide s also bit different. As I m in abroad and my Ph.d s continuing from Pondicherry Central University its getting very difficult for me to complete. Why cannot you import BANALINGAM as they are costing around 150-500 Rs with Full set in Brass,so you will have regular SHIV PUJA without even need to go to TEMPLES.If you have will there is a way !!!
Weaker/badly placed Moon or Badly placed Mercury are responsible to loss of concentration.CONTINUOUS puja of SRI GANESHA and SARASWATI will give you stable mind,as GANESH is also controller of BUDH planet,Offering GREEN GRASS TO COWS on WEDNESDAY will bring relief else PANNA/EMERALD in GOLD is inevitable,but effect of pure and flawless Emerald duly pranprathista of Budh will give instant relief.
Metal idols except IRON/STEEL can be used but should be smaller in size.
Your FASTING is full of errors as only one time MEAL(NIGHT)is allowed and you are taking two meals as wheat/Maize flakes are also cereals.YOU CAN SUBSTITUTE it with bananas with milk instead (in afternoon)or CURD AND BOILED POTATOS added as SALAD but without salt as you cannot eat SALT more than once in VRATAM.
Some people keep SWEET VRATAM and shed SALT as that is more ACCEPTABLE and difficult to follow.
PRANPRATISTA is essential in TEMPLES or HOUSES which are FIXED in nature as slight movement of IDOL render PRAN goes back and IDOL needs to be immersed.

I need some advice..
My house is small flat (1kitchen,hall and a balcony). Somehow I don't find Vastu effctive for these modern houses.
I have placed my pooja Mandir in West (south-west part of Kitchen) so when I do pooja I face west and gods east.
We are non-veg eaters, but, this corner is always kept clean and away from non-veg items.
Hall is place we use to sleep hence I cannot keep Mandir in hall. My balcony is quite big and I can keep mandir in NE corner of Balcony but, somehow I feel like it is not good.
I wanted to know what our sastras say about direction to face while doing pooja. Is facing west while doing pooja inaspicious?
Please advice..

I have a white marble shiva lingam, i do milk abhishekam daily, but the problem is , the shivalingam has a visible crack, not broken, can i perform abhishekam or is it bad to to do it on a cracked lingam..

In Reference to my earlier comment it is further clarified that Wherever the paucity of space cause you to place TEMPLE in your BEDROOM,then it is advisable that all BRAHMACHHARI GODS LIKE HANUMAN,SHANI,AYYAPA,VAISHNO DEVI OR KANYA KUMARI or who so ever OF THE ARE PURE,CHASTE AND UN-MARRIED should not be placed in that temple wherever due to SINGLE ROOM husband wife are having their family role as only FAMILY GODS are auspicious and will not be averse to HUSBAND WIFE RELATIONSHIPS.
IF THERE IS A CRACK OF ANY KIND THEN SHIV LINGAM IS VERY INAUSPICIOUS AND NEEDS TO BE SUBMERGED IN GANGAA OR AT SEA.IF IT IS GRAIN STRUCTURE OF STONE AND APPEARS LIKE THREAD THEN IT IS AS GOOD AS JANAYUU OR YAGOPAVITA OF GOD IF IT GOES FROM TOP LEFT TO RIGHT DOWN.

I have another doubt, this is in repect of womens menstrual cycle. What restriction I must follow during my spouce menstrual cycle. Since she still prepares food for us and make household work during this period.
Though in my home Puja is performed only during morning after bath by me, evening diya we avoid during this menstrual cycle and when we consume non-veg.

My question was the restriction we(who do pooja) have during this period. I been told that, pooja at home must be avoided, since we all house members become unclean during this period.
I was also been adviced that since we eat food made my women which stays in our body for 2days hence for total 7 days pooja must be avoided at home..

DEEPAK IN KALYUG you cannot have FULL PIOUSNESS,therefore even,The male of family or KID OR OLD PARENTS after having completed all morning routine things and post bath can do ALL POOJA of Dieties.
It is not question of UNCLEAN,but prohibition of PUJA by RAJASWALA ladies is applicable for 5 days,thats it!!!,there is no uncleaniness associated about it!!! These are wrong notions spread in HINDISM.
IF you can eat NON-VEG and do puja what is harm in eating FOOD prepared by Woman in cycles.
FIRST AND FOREMOST HOUSEHOLD POOJA is only when you find difficulty in going to TEMPLES.Actually speaking temples are only made do do PUJA as there is established Diety there and all rituals and rules are followed there.
Do not get confused,and follow EASY path instead as you will do less mistakes and mistakes done unknowingly are spared by GOD if it is for welfare of others,

The reason being my mind get distorted when I see how few people selfishly try to grab a postion in top most position in Temple trust, or the way Poojaris sefishly run after more and more dakshina or the rush people make during special occations and no one get proper darshan, hence instead going to temple I prefer doing pooja at home.
Currently I am reading "Karma Yoga" book by Swami Vivekananda. I havn't completed the book but, one thing I have understood is "Our duties are the only thing important in our life and no duty is good or bad by act, but by intention" but, then the question comes in mind "WHY WE DO POOJA?"
I don't do pooja for some material gains, mokasha or for happy living but, to always show me right path of living. I always expect from God to enlighten me before making any sin because I always believe 'Jiasi karni waise bharni'.

You are 100% right as said in GEETA : KARMYOG is your puja as GOD has created man to do all right things on Earth,but soory to say now a days all GODMEN are grabbing money...they run after power and girls....least said is best.Why because,we never allowed young lot to question elders,even when they are committing all sorts of sin.
2.We allowed all of us to comment,distort and edit our OLDVALUABLE SCRIPTURES,so when this happened our so called learned BRAHMIN'S twisted everything to benefit to them..and rather than ruling..they became advisors to KINGs and rule thru PROXY !!!

Most of us do pooja only for material gains or to go in heaven or for forgiveness of their sins..etc
But, I don't think that is what vedas must say, because KARMA YOGA says we must all Karmas unselfishly, then why should be do Pooja?
Or does these Brahmins have created GODS for their own benifit?
Or have we created Gods so that we dedicate all our duties in the name of God unselfishly?

What should be the right size of a narmada shiv linga? and what colour?

You need not to touch SHIV-LINGAM to clean it.You can pour abhishekam by any copper utensils wihout touching shiv-lingam.Forcleaning use white soft cloth/brush and wash LINGAM with pure water without touching it.All water after cleaning or abhishek is called NIRMALAYA...it should not come under feet,neither be consumed as it will bring ILL LUCK & ILLNESS...SO PLS AVOID always !!! Pour this mixture into any PLANT EXCEPT TULSI..or in rivers/lakes/sea.

As you mentioned previously, One must do Pooja 2hrs before and 2hrs after sunrise. 12-4:30 is not a good time. Do we have any restriction or specific time in evening and night? this because sometimes I wake-up late in morning and hence I do pooja in evening..
Also do we have to follow any specific time during Full moon or new moon and also during solar and lunar eclipse..

Avoid performing any important work or deal.
After Grahan, many Hindus perform ritual bath. Take meal only after the ritual bath. Taking a holy dip in rivers or lakes is highly auspicious.
Many Hindus observe fasting on the day of Surya or Chandra Grahanam.Avoid outside food during grahanam and as well as the whole day.Perform ritual bath, Puja, Japam, havan and all other rituals only after Grahan Moksh Kaal (the time when grahan is released).Avoid eating at the time of Grahanam.
Avoid eating the food which is cooked before Grahan. Take the food which is cooked after Grahan. People can eat the food that is prevented from ‘Soothak (Ashouch). To prevent food from Soothak, just spill some til seeds or keep grass blades (Durva grass) on the food before grahan.or put a TULSI leaf in food.Specially during chandra grahan avoid boiling milk and add a tulsi leaf into the milk.
SOOTHAK is generally 9 hrs before GRAHAN starts,and is unauspicious for PUJA.
FOR OTHER DAYS I REC PUJA EVEN IF DONE LATE BUT BEFORE 1130 HRS is GOOD as comparable to evening puja...for which LIGHTING a DIYA is more auspicious and important.My personal experience with people have been that avoiding morning PUJA and doing in evening as a substitute is not GOOD in over all practice.GOUDHULI VELA is UPTP 2 HRS From sunset,you should do evening puja only in gouduli vela except for DEEPAWALI PUJA.
FULL MOON DAY PUJA IS VERY GOOD,NEW MOON PUJA IS FOR PITRA ...YOU SHOULD OFFER WATER,MILK,SUGAR,BLACK TIL AND JAU AS TARPAAN TO ALL PITRA ON NEW MOON (AMAVASYA) AFTERNOON SOMEWHERE 3 PM.

My question is to Capt Chauhan Maharaj. I bought a Narmada Shiva Lingam of nearly 7 inch long from a reliable supplier of holy items. I doubt during transportation (by courier) it got a very thin crack on one side from top to bottom. I have noticed it only after making a thorough check of the Linga a few days ago. In homes only 3 FINGERS THICKNESS SIZE shilingam should be used as big size lingam are for commonly used MANDIRS and Temples only and are outside the house.Just immerse the cracked SHIVLINGAM as prescribed in previous paras.Dont get dishearten and send a clear photo of SHIV-LINGAM with crack and ask your dealer to replace with new and claen BAANLINGAM (NARMEDESHWAR STONE)OF not more than 3 Inches size in height as soon as possible,ask him to supply with aast dhatu or peetal nandi,naag and yoni base stand with it and wrap in bubble sheet to avoid damage to lingam.It is better to wait than to do wrong and repent...OM NAMAYE SHIVAYE BLESS YOU !!!

Is it possible to be non-veg on auspicious days? I'm was born in the west but have my roots in India from over 150 years. I wanted to know how do we give respect or remember our ancestors. I mean is their a ritual by which we can remember our ancestors. My parents are still alive but, my grand parents etc..
I have also heard that by praying Shiva our ancestors are happy because now they are part of Shiva...is this true as per our shastras?
Some time back I was asked to do Narayan-Naag bali in Trimbakeshwar..I did and after that I have seen some good improvements in my life..but, frankly when I see the sort of business done under the name of Narayan-Naag bali I was not pleased to do it..
Does this have any significance? How often this ritual needs to be done?

Pitra Dosh is not a curse of the Ancestors, but it is a Karmic Debt of the ancestors which the person having Pitra Dosh in his horoscope is supposed to pay. In simple words a Pitra Dosh is formed in the horoscope of a person due to bad Karmas or bad deeds done by the Ancestors of that person and this person is supposed to pay that Karmic debt by suffering the punishments decided for those debts in different spheres of his life until the debt is cleared either by punishment or by the good deeds done by the person having this Pitra Dosh in his horoscope. So a Pitra Dosh in a horoscope does not mean that the ancestors are cursing the person having Pitra Dosh in his horoscope, but it means that the Ancestors of such a person are themselves cursed.
REMEDIES ARE SIMPLE:
Krishna paksha of Ashwin Maas, is called shraadh, or pitra paksha, or mahaalaya paksha or kanaagat paksha, as during this time of the year, the Sun is in the Kanya rashi. Sun is dakshinaye also during this month, so, all the pooja has to be done facing south direction. This pooja is related to Surya pooja. Do this in Surya hora only, i.e. within 1 hour of sun rise.
Pooja Vidhi:
Our pitras are our identity. We are because of them. So, we must do their pooja with full devotion. Don’t do any pooja in a hurried manner. Don’t ever make fun of Shraadh. Do dhyaan of ancestors. Your body and mind should be in proper equilibrium. Doing this pooja daily, is the best, otherwise, do it on the tithi prescribed for the concerned ancestor’s shraadh or do it on the amavasya for sure, (27 september 2011) , with whole family and include children also.
There are three parts of Pooja
Tarpan, Bhojan, Tyaag.
Tarpan: Take a copper or earthen vessel and fill it with clean drinking water. The water must not contain any kind of scent or smell. Add Til also in this water. Sit facing the south direction (if possible, sit near plants, so that when you offer water it doesn’t spill over the floor or your feet, and goes straight in the plants.) Keep a bucket full of water with you. Tie kusha grass in the ring finger of your right hand. Now, do the tarpan facing south and chanting this mantra- “Om Pitra Devaye Namah, Om Pitra Shaanti Bhava.” Do dhyaan of Ancestors and ask them for happiness and peace.
Bhojan: Make food that was favorite of your ancestors. Every morning, keep aside the 1st portion of the food for the cow, 2nd for the crow, 3rd for dog, and 4th for ants. Then only, have your food. The food should include, rice, milk, shakkar, ghee, gangajal, honey and kheer and should be for Devta, Brahmin, and one poor person. According to Geeta, eating non-veg is prohibited these days.
What not to have in food.. paan, tambaaku, jootha bhojan, urad, onion, garlic, zeera, brinjal, meethi supaari, bottle gourd (gol lauki), heeng.
You have to do this on the Shraadh Tithi. The food to the cow, crow, dog and ants can be given daily also during pitra paksha.
Tyaag:
Eat food only once a day. Any member in the family can take this responsibility. Don’t eat grains after sunset. You may eat fruit etc though. The day you have to do shraadh, sleep on the floor. Do daan, keep til and raw food in daan. Daan can be - Bhumi daan, gurh(jiggery) daan, go (cow)-daan or anaaj (grains) daan. Leave at least one bad habit for the entire life. Don’t make use of any scent besides chandan and kapoor. Don’t have sexual intercourse during this period.
Once a day, do parikrama of peepal tree. Do narayan pooja or read Garudh path or Geeta. On amavasya, do pind daan of all pitra.
No celebration has to be done during shraadh. No New clothes, new vehicles, new things. Don’t do grah pravesh. Don’t do pooja late (you have to do it with in 1 hour of Sunrise). Shraadh can be done by husband wife, son, son-in-law, daughter, brother, or nephew of the concerned ancestor as well.
AND MORE SO EVER EVERY AMAVASYA AFTER BATH WITHOUT EATING FOOD ,JUST OFFER MIXTURE OF BLACK TIL,JOU,SUGAR,MILK AND ICE COLD WATER IN SUMMERS AND NORMAL WATER IN WINTERS AS THRU COPPER VESSEL FROM RIGHT HAND FACING SOUTHERN DIRECTION WHEN WATER TO FLOW OVER YOUR THUMB OR BETWEEN THUMB AND FIRST FINGER SAYING SARV PITRU TARPAYAMI ....THEN 2ND TIME OFFERING SARV PITRU TARPYAM..AND OFFER FULL WATER AND PLACE THIS VESSEL ULTA LIKE DEAD PUJA..AND DO NAMASKAR TO ALL PITRA WITH BOTH HAND RAISING UP WITH PALM FACING FORWARD LIKE SURRENDER BEFORE POLICE...AND SURRENDER YOURSELF TO THEM FOR THEIR TRUPTI AND ASK THEM TO BOON YOU WITH PROGENY,WEALTH AND GOOD HEALTH.
IT DO NOT COST ANYTHING BUT PITRA WANTS THAT YOU REMEMBER THEM EVERY AMAVASYA AS IT IS DEDICATED BY LORD FOR ALL DEAD ONES AND THEY FEEL HAPPY IF THEIR SOME DEAR ONE IS REMEMBERING THEM...BHAV IS IMPORTANT HERE NOT MONEY OR OFFERINGS...JUST ADD SHALIGRAM SHILA JAL TO MIXTURE AND YOUR ALL PITRA WILL BE SATISFIED AT ONCE.
Can we keep narmedswar & parad shiv ling in house mandir and do puja? And also is it necessary to keep tamba snake with narmedswar in house mandir for daily puja?

You can do puja there is no problem,however PRANPRATHISTHA SHIVLINGAM cannot be removed from one place to another as even a cm movement will entail GOD'S PRAN-VAYU leaving idol at-once.Thats why I preach worshipping of BAANLINGAM (NARMADA) as SHIVA LORD blessed that he will remain in it eternally so there is no rules of movement of idol.Lord Shiva bless you.

My date of birth is 14/02/1983 , 08:04 am , rourkela (india), I had an elder brother who passed away in 2001 due to kidney failure , we are a business family.its been observed that every year at a particular period we have to bear a financial loss (may be theft , accident ,illness , government penalty anything ).
Last month on 23/05/2012 , i had faced a tragic incidents (escaped from two deadly accidents , fell down on ground ) , and a incident which gave a huge loss to my business. ( i had a dealership of a fmcg company ,i was sacked from it and lost my business ). i am unable to concentrate in my business and day to day activities, my accounting part is poor ( unable to concentrate,find time and finalize the accounts of parties.. and it lags to the dead end ) . i had faced a huge loss ,it has given me sleepless nights and a fear for my parents though they support me mentally . saying losses and profit is a part of life. at present i am into loans .
one of the priest said me to do Lord Shiv puja full Shravan month , which i have started and the curiousty to know more , i searched internet and reached your blog.
in Morning after taking bath , i do puja in home - i do hanuman chalisa , Sri Durga Chalisa ,Sri Sukhtam and 108 times maha mritunjay mantra ), after that i go to temple and offer jal ,milk ,ghee,honey,curd , flowers and dhaksina.
I am unmarried yet many proposals come but nothing gets finalised. now at this juncture i feels the girl who will marry me, will she be happy with me

I want to start my 16 somvar vrat from shukla paksha in sawan but bimistake i have started it from krishna paksha (9th july 2012)
In the morning i have offered the jal on my home shivlingm and add some white chandan tika with some sugar. and after that read the somvar vrat katha and offered a desi ghee deepak.
but not offered the panjiri ( Atta + sugar + ghee) that i have planned to offer in the evening pooja.
so can i not count this somvar and next somvar in my sixteen somvar vrat and start the 16 somvar vrat from 23 july 2012 ( shukla paksha)
and normally i will do the fast in next monday also without reading the 16th somvar vrat katha or i have to continue the same or i should avoid the next monday ( not observed the fast) and start it from 23rd july.
because in next monday i will be in train after 12:30 p.m. till 12:00 in night so please suggest what i have to do.

Abhisheks in evening is only done on PRADOSH Days and on Maha-SHIV RATRI...whole day.It is good to use PANCHAMRIT abhishek in evening rituals.Generally in North India whole day Abhishek is done which is not a practice in South India as they tie around a Cloth to Lingam and it will spoil it.When I inquired why I cannot do Abhishek in evening..then this priest replied that Lord like Human is supposingly take bath only early in Day and only on Pradosh evening Snan will be offered and there every body put water,milk and gangajal in a separate bowl from which consolidated Abhishek is offered.He said DO YOU WILL LIKE THAT WHOLE DAY you are made WET and uncomfortable and sticky and not allowed to get ready for routine work and will not get offended...I did not had ANY ANSWER for this !!
Cow is NANDINI mother of Nandi and her first milk is for God's and evening milk goes to NANDI her Child who sits besides Lord Shiva...therefore this milk is not accepted to Lord as it may devoid rightful owner of possession her child!!

TIKKA Circular marks are OKAY if it is horizontal as Vertical lines are not marked on SHIVLING'S.
Home Grown TULASI grown in pots are Annual plants and they dry when life is over or SOME GR8 ASHUDHHI is taking place in house.Therefore it should be placed in pious place away from dirt,trash,unclean & unwashed males and females having non-veg,drinks and sex are prohibited to touch and come near to it.Menses bleeding woman are to be away from plant.Watering to be done by clean and pious person and not by servants and maids.
Place pure SHALIGRAM under TULASI and you will see that many tulasi will grow and cover shaligram from sun in same pot only if you offer dail snan and sandhya deepak to them after observing all purities.

Yes,Bathing Laxmi and Ganesha with Dakshinavrti Shankh is very good,but in no case TULSI be there in the Shankh.Add a drop of pure Sea water will make LAXMI happy being Samudra her father and only Sea has got all Tirth Jaal in it.Avoid collecting it from Chowpati of Mumbai where the Sea is polluted.

Idol of GOD's are installed with PRAN-PRATHISTA in it and they are not moved from there as little,even mm movement will cause SOUL of DEITY residing in it to leave it permanently and it will be an ornamental piece only.This is applicable to all SHIV-LINGAM.
Now coming to why NARMEDESHWAR can be moved is that ,NARMADA was blessed and given boon by LORD SHIVA PRATAKSHYA himself that..he will always reside in stones coming out of NARMADA IN NATURAL LINGAM FORM at a region called Shri-OMKARSHWAR ISLAND which is also OM Shaped,near INDORE in M.P.After this boon.these stones are formed by natural wear and tear by NARMADA WATER of GRANITE ROCKS at this place and wether you take them any where....LORD SHIVA always reside in it and accept PUJA in full form and they do not require any PRAN-PRATHISTHA of LORD SHIVA.
PARAD is poison and poison is LIKED by lord SHIVA...how ever it is not blessed to have soul of lord to reside in it,so once you install thereafter if you move it it is equal to desecrating IDOL and incur wrath of LORD SHIVA and will be devoid all blessings by God's of a person performing this act.
This has been told by me in previous paras...but now you insisted for very finer details,which Lord desired to be answered by me..Hope it resolves your queries...OM NAMAY SHIVAYE !!!
Thanks for all the info. What should be done with the panchamrit after it is offered to Shiv Lingam. I mean after giving Shiv Lingam a bath with Panchamrit I generally pour the panchamrit down the kitchen sink hole. I am not sure if that is the right thing to do? I live in the US.

Thanks for getting back. Now since I live in the US. I don't have many options for a proper disposal. I live in an apartment. I don't have any potted plants where I can dispose of Nirmalya. I don't want to dispose used panchamrit in public parks because people walk their dogs and kids run around in the park.
Will disposing nirmalaya (used panchamrit) down the kitchen sink hole considered bad for puja ritual? I don't want to be doing some sort of thing that is not appropriate.
I have been to US many times and do not agree with your contentions that you don't have a Plant in your house or any lake',or river nearby where you can dispose panchamrit.You can buy a normal ranamental plant with pot except TULSI OR You collect it in a clean bowl for 2-3 days and then take in disposal clean bag and do visarjan as described.Sink carries all dirt ,filth and non-veg items in it,how can you think of considering it appropriate....I am surprised.

im so disappointed about my elder son. he wont listen to his parents,he is 17 next year.. wont study but his ambition is to become a docter.if i ask him to study or go to tuition he wont do it..his workd is sleeping, watching tv. and computer..he wont study at all..sometimes he scold me until i feld like want to kill my self...i dont know why my son become like this...he become very rude to his parents...my son very poor in studys...every time he fail in his exem..i bought many books and spend money for his studys but he dont care about this all...what should i do...my husband also unhappy becouse of my son ....im daily crying becouse of him..no peace in my life..pls help me.....(im not fluent in english ..sorry)

This must have started much earlier but, you still have CHOICE to rectify your relationship with son. You must first gains your son's confidence in you and then make him understand the way he might understand..

Try to understand your son...I mean really UNDERSTAND HIM. Read some self help books from authors like Stephen R. Covey...this will definetly guide you..
He is 17 and he can make his own decision now. He might not be interested in studies. His destiny might be something else. Just stand by him as a mentor and not as a dictator. Give him freedom to choose allow him to make his own decistion. make him realize there are no failures - just experiences. He must learn from his mistakes and not cry on them..
Lastly, if you can't control your emotions go for meditation, read Bhagvad-Gita this will change your thinking and our life too.
While I do agree with previous comment but like to add that any problem occurring in life because of progeny is due to pitra dosh when unknowingly curse of our elders either in current birth or previous one takes on us ...in form of sufferings as per GEETA all this world is BALANCE SHEET ..you have to pay price to keep your CREDIT balance in good form ...
but since your son is only adolescent in age so here hormonal changes are also involved.
Simple solution..is just offer on all AMAYASYA 's of year post morning rituals and snanam and before eating anything...just offer black til,JAU,Sugar preferably Misri(raw) or jaggery only little quantity pour in one copper LOTA with RAW Cow's milk 50% and Chilled water added...if you have then add few drops of GANGA JAL.
Face in south directions remember your ancestors and ask them forgiveness that you do not know VIDHHI and are not capable of full offerings so they can be please accept this offering and remain SHANT...and pleasant towards your family...offer this as TARPANAM..water mixture flowing over between your index finger and thumb...saying SARV PITRA Devo Tarpayamee...tarpayaam.....In evening just lit one Til oil lamp in Shiv temple...thats it so simple....you will find many problem in your life going away this SURE will have you blessings of LORD SHIVA n family...OM NAMAYE SHIVA-YE.

I have a shivling with snake and nandi at home. But it is a metallic one ( about 4 inches including the heightr of the snake) I also have a stone ganapathi and metallic karthic.
I do puja daily but abhishekam only once in a while with water and milk.
Is this ok
Tarpan needs to done near lake,sea,rivers or water bodies.If it is not possible to go to this places then outside your home facing south on any plane place of earth where water should not fall on plants...it should be bare earth ...even on concrete it is acceptable as long as it does not come under someone's feet unknowingly.
2.Abhishekam by cold water is must at least every day with empty stomach....meaning you can have tea..coffee or milk but not to consume ANN...food grain prior to abhishek

but in this 1 week my relatives said I should not do perform the abhishegam & pooja for Shiva Lingam and Nandhi as I am a young girl. they also said if i want to perform the abhishegam & pooja I must only do it according to the temple time 5 times a day. but I cant do so as I am working and studying. I also had a dream that I was doing abhishegam to Lord Nandhi with curd.
I don't understand what should I do? should I continue the abhishegam & pooja or should I stop?

In my home i've four shiva lingam i) Shiva lingam from Tarkeswar ii) White Shivalingam from Baidyanath Dham iii) 2 nos. Narmedeswar shivalingam.

Lord Shiva...if pleased by your high bhakti and sincere rituals generally makes visit TO A PERSON in way of Old fragile man or very sick animal and you may not be able to recognize him despite sitting next to him.Generally he will be in plain white attired cloth.Say Jai Shri Ram or Sita Ram to him and he will be highly pleased to reply back to you with smile and reply in back with blessing posture.If you say OM Namaye Shivaye ...he will just smile at you but will not et-all utter his own Panchakshri Mantra...if he utters than probably you are meeting Nandi Baba...but still you are highly blessed !!!

This is happening to you because of grave mistakes done by your ancestors by duping someone of everything despite he/she was very close who had full faith in ur ancestors.The curse of sufferer is taking toll on your everything.
Now you have to repent this by giving gupt donation to utter destitute and needy people and asking forgiveness from sufferer soul.
Secondly without any fail acquire ( with a sankalp to relieve this paap) a Narmada Shivlingam do full puja as prescribed before and do this regularly for 40 days or best if possible you can go to any shiv temple starting puja from Shukla paksh Monday and regulary offer chilled raw cow milk with ganga jal mixed on Shivlingam with belpatras for minimum 40 days..if break happens you have to repeat again for constant 40 days.Dedicate this full puja to only one wish,not the multiple ones and you will be blessed and relieved of curse.
