I was put this question by a professor recently during a casual discussion on Indian blogging and Hindu blogs. I went to give a conventional answer that you get to see in Wikipedia.
A blog is a user-generated website where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order.
Blogs often provide commentary or news on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.
Well I did not just mug up and say word by word but I said something like this.
But I wanted to say something else and I was hesitant. Perhaps there lies the importance of blogs; it opens up even an introvert.

Why are politics in Hinduism.
It pains me to write this blog, but the truth of the matter is, that it does exists and someone got to speak-up for this, or else it will never see the day of light. There are lot of sects and sub-sects in Hindu culture, each one is headed by its own Guru or Acharya you call it. These highend folks who are supposively know the religion to the core... or atleast who practice the religion to the prisciption method, yet so contaminated in Mind. For instance, there are two sects in Vaishnavism, Vadakalai and Thenkalai. They both follow the same principles, except differ in one fundamental aspect of philasophical differences... yes its acceptable to have differences, but why fight over lives for it. Why the leaders of these two sects play the worst politics in life to miss treat eachother. When they see eachother they are fine and act like as if they respect eachother but as they part their spearate ways, its just hard to see the diferences they can measure, which is taller than the Himalaya's. All I ask is why? I have friends who are illatrate, who has better ethics than these so called religious guru's who have absolutely hipocritical in life. They preach, and only act like they are following, but never follow them in reallife. I can go on and on and on... but all I can say is thankyou for the blog... and God bless The Internet and hope and pray for a peaceful and unpolitical leaders or socalled Guru's in Life.
I can understand your disillusionment and anger towards modern day gurus. It is good to know that people are realizing the worthlessness of money and power oriented modern day gurus.
Real guru will never preach, he/she will only sit near you and discuss things with you…he/she will let you take the decision.
Forget the Gurus, Santana Dharma teaches to find the Brahman in you and each individual has the capacity to do this….the only question is do you have the required patience and determination.
I just wanted to get the Amavasai 2008.Can any one help?
hi, i would take this issue in other way.As you can see in all sects + sub-sects of Hinduism, the ultimate goal is same.Nobody is going away from that (i.e. seeking ultimate soul by seeking a soul in yourself). But,the beauty of hinduism is that even though being the oldest religion; we have modern qualities to practice like we are allowed to have our own way,we are allowed to express what we think even in religeous matter. That's why you see so many gurus having their own sects. No other religion in the world are having this system.Nobody can even arugue about some obvious rules in their religion except Hinduism. We are the more democractic in all aspects of life including religion. So,let it happen.Don't be so upset with that. Just concentrate the ultimate goal for "Mukti" in this life. Jay Hind..
UNITING HINDUS
Unification of Hindus is a very important part in current society. Unity beyond self is the only way this can happen. Uniting even the down trodden you see on streets, living on streets to the religion to tell them they exist for good purpose. HINDUISM had treated its own people very badly and hence it has become the cause of expelling almost everyone from its own stream. Sikhs were Hindus once, now they are not. SC/ST are Hindus and are turning in to everything else but Hindus.
We need to unite and hug even the poorest Hindu to make him feel at home among Hindus. It is one of the best religions in the world but due to capitalists minds its becoming like Amway. - great values, but mean consiciuos.
i completely accept with tau,the time has come that ,we hindus, should stand united and face the forthcoming problems of religious conversion, religious terrorism and should have the guts to protect our culture.
Hi,I would agree on this too.Well.
We should do our best efforts to unite religiously ( don't include politics in there).See most people who accept other religions in India is due to poverty (as long as i know). When you and your family is hungry, food matters not a religion. It's a ground reality we need to accept and should work on it.We are more prone to make temples across world but always forget to uplift our brothers + sisters who are living under poverty.Don't expect these gurus to do anything for us and don't believe them.Look at the records of these gurus, most of them are crap. They become saint with good purpose, stay good for some time. But as soon as money, popularity comes they lose control of their senses (indriyas).I would like to be a part of any honest step. Jay Hind....
Hi
We Hindus are completely shattered with the behaviour of Central Government in India who are trying to find all faults in Hindus and they always try to equate Hindu followers with Jehadis. There is no doubt Christian Missionaries are doing the dirtiest things in tribal areas of Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Karnataka, Orissa and Jharkhant, still we see that only one sided news is shown in TV channels and also by the politicians. Should all pure Hindus unite against the false propaganda by the TVs and ditry politicians.
One should be proud of his/her religious beliefs(religion). It is a sign of ignorance when you begin to think that any one can convert another. It is done not by man. Only through divine intervention. Do not get bent out of shape when you see mass conversions. Those are not conversions just changing the name of religion. They are not good for their own or to the other that they turn to. Real conversions take place when they see religion changing the very character and nature of a person through one's convictions. Live your religion. Do not waste your breath criticizing another religion. All religions declare that God is love. If you have God in you, you will be a loving person, loving the unlovable. You do not rejoice when another is killed, burned, mutilated in the name of religion. It is not a demonstration of religious practice. It is evil it is the absence of God in their hearts. It is difficult to be God-like or Godly. One has to give up 'self' which is the most difficult thing to do. Self is the operating system that runs one's life. One has to die to self so that he can make room for God to occupy the space once filled by 'self'. from that memont on, God becomes your operating system and all your behaviour will be modified and you become a loving, Godlike individual. May you experience that. the world will be a better place for you and me and the generations that follow us.
Which relgion has no politics?Take the christian religion. The numerous churhes-like the Lutheran church ith its headquarters in Geneva-the catholic church with its headquarters in ome,the church of South India and the Church of North India(with its headquaters in England)the various Pentecostal churches, the Syrian churches and its subsects-even the above mentioned have divisions. These hve their heirarchy-their propogada machinery etc.Armies of priests and nuns the Catholic church has-the others have lay men and women all imbibed with a cruscading spirit but all based on the power of money. These are global corporates and are as corrupt as corportes!Apat from this the politics within and between the churches will put to shame political parties. But when it comes to facing the Hindus/muslims the stand as one Unlike the hindu religion these have global power and hence global lobbies. They are powerful. When it come to the hindu religion inspite of the different sectsthey are not functioning as corporates nd they heads have no political power nor global power. It is of utmost importance that the hindu leaders and people should stand united cutting across their own differences.
I think its a great Blog. WE MUST GIVE IMPORTANCE TO HINDUISM. I am sure the ancestors of Hinduism have done a great deal of research on LIFE & WAY OF LIVING. Although it got lost away time, only few pieces of this puzzle exists today. However people like Abhilash, can really solve this mystery and get back the lost knowledge to this world. Teach the essence of HINDUISM=WAY OF LIVING.
Abhilash Great Work. The lost Knowledge of our Ancestors will help in solving this mystry of LIFE & WAY OF LIVING, which is the essence of Hinduism. I belive Hinduism is not merely a religon but it teachs about things which can optimize the effeciency of our BODY. It was practiced many thousands of years ago will complete precison. However it got lost over the time beacuse Hinduism was not united. I think we we can take all the peices of puzzle together we can solve the mystery called LIFE. This will enable us to controll the "WAY OF LIFE" much more efficiently.
interesting read, I blog as parwati-singari.sulekha.com and now and again ponder about blogs may that will make an amusing read.
Hi,
HINDUISM IS A WAY OF LIFE - this excellent work put together for the betterment of all by Abhilash is highly lauded. Each one of us has been gifted with an intellectual property and the power to discriminate what is best for us. The ability to use that power and discretion helps us to lead on lives as a better Hindu without much confusion and mind conflicts.
It would be also good if Abhilash could also include on a daily/frequent basis, profounds from the Bhagawad Geeta (Chap1-18) which would be thought provoking and will help the generations to come on the way of living.
hey this is like eureka moment for me...!huum nice..intresting...I am a proud liberal hindu...and i am greatful for being one...I also know that there are true guru
[litreally translated the word Gu ru means the dispeller of darkness..]A true guru uplifts, transforms, awekens the source of inner dorment wisdom in us, so that our Viveka or the power of discrimination is so sharp that we can differentiate between Shreyas[benificial] and preyas[pleasurable].once awekened to this inner dorment power we can lead a life established in that viveka..a guru is a very vast subject really, and truly speaking our own inner effulgence..I have enjoyed reading this blog..good luck guys..
I believe the basic philosphy of hindusism can best be expalined by the 3 monkey image.. see no evil, talk no evil, hear no evil. If one practices these basic truths.. then I guess you have covered the bascis of any religion .. and on the road to salvation. The next important aspect is that of control of the senses.. which enables one to unite the mind body and soul.. if this is achieved ..it will lead to salvation from the worldy pleasures and evils.. the fundamental truth is we need to have control over our desires and thus control our senses.. this is not easy and so this attainment takes you from the materialistic world to the next stage of life.. the world of self realisation.
I feel so much happiness to find and read such type of spiritual text in the form of blog website online. I am so much thankful to you people doing great job. Please let me know if I can help you in any way.
Thanks.
I entered your blog by chance. I feel it is a good place to receive and share information regarding our faith - Hinduism.
My main concern
(1) We spend millions building temples but we do not build schools to teach children to become successful and good hindus. My suggestion: Build a large school and in its compound a small temple, open to all residents in the area, especially to all families of the children in the school.
Just a thought.Ulaganathan, Malaysia
