It must be noted that the term ‘Hindu’ and ‘Hinduism’ is not found in any of the important ancient religious texts associated with Hinduism. The word ‘Hindu’ came into being with the arrival of Muslims invaders. They called the people who lived along the
The Hindu word for religion is Dharma i.e one that holds society together from disruption and disintegration.2 So for a Hindu religion is ‘Sanatana Dharma’ – The eternal religion.
The earliest evidence of Hinduism is found in the
But it must be understood here that the cultural level and style of living of the people of Indus Valley Civilization was of the highest kind and it cannot be attained overnight. They might have attained such high level through steady progress over the years. So it would be right to say the earliest seed of Hinduism was laid hundreds of years before
Next controversy is regarding the arrival of Aryans which traditional historians say happened between (2000 – 1000BC). This again is challenged by several scholars. Aryans were a nomadic people and they brought with them their forms of worship and integrated with those already existing. Aryans were mainly nature worshippers.
Another important factor the traditional historians ignore, when dealing with the History of Hinduism is the existence of Dravidians. The Dravidians had their form of worship which is quite similar to modern day Hinduism.
As we dig for the history of Hinduism it only adds to the existing confusion.
Most historians shy away from fixing a particular period mainly because their claims will be easily challenged by other scholars. Each and every theory regarding the origin of Hinduism has been challenged and it is an ongoing controversy.
I had earlier written an article to point out the worthlessness of searching for the origin of Hinduism. Hinduism believes that everything is from ‘Brahman,’ which is without a beginning and end. And therefore it is futile to search for the origin.

good post. thanks!
Yes, I completely agree to your point - how can the 'Eternal Religion' or Hinduism have a date of start. This is where all other forms of religions have got their seeds from. Hinduism taught the world how to live .. this is what i had learned from my grand parents.
Please visit this search engine which is a temples search engine http://www.khojmandir.com
It is a cool and interesting search engine for hindu devotees
Good Post! I have to completely agree to that.
i won't accept , what you had mentioned in last para.
and one more thing, i am having lot of doubt, because of everyone is concentrate on sindu valley, but at same time no one live in india anywhere ? if yes, then we should find those people religion, culture others...
this is totally absurd. How can people believe in a religion that has no beginning, the saints and so called priests have made us believe in HINDUISM... IF IT IS TO BE DONE THEN THERE MUST BE A PROOF.
well i have to say anonymous that it is possible that the hindi religion is so acient that it is hard to preserve all the manuscripts made years ago, same with all religion it doesn't always have to do with Hindu religion, the christian religion was just one man being born by a lady who was some what a virgin? There is something missing there if you think?
jai mata di
I think that hindu is only religion which taught us to live in corelation with Earth and Natural resourses. From the very ancient times hindus are worshiping all Agni, Pawan,Suraj,Rutu and Varsha. The same we are made from and thinking these days. All hindus work starts with worshiping these elements.
Hindu is only religion which pure and clean with most number of vegetrain,I agreed hindu are seed for all other religion,But friend very sad to say we are only 2% in world among other religion,
Really good article.. Explains the roots of Hinduism really well..
I'd just like to say that worshipping the Elements that a blogger: Shripad mentioned (Agni, Pawan, Suraj, Rutu, Varsha etc)are just a part of Hinduism..
The point not mentioned in the article is the Fact that Hinduism is divided into 4 different divisions..
Smartism: The term Smarta refers to adherents who follow the Vedas and Shastras. These are the Hindus that beleive in the Vedic gods and the elements.. Like Indra, Agni, Varuna etc.. who represent different elements. This also focuses on Advaitism (Beleiving that god is within you, Aatman hi Parmaatmaan..) Also focused in Buddhism..
Shaktism: is a denomination of Hinduism that focuses worship upon Shakti or Devi – the Hindu Divine Mother – as the absolute, ultimate Godhead.
Shaivism: Followers of Shaivism, called "Shaivas," and also "Saivas" or "Saivites," revere Shiva as the Supreme Being. Shaivas believe that Shiva is All and in all, the creator, preserver, destroyer, revealer and concealer of all that is.
Vaishnavism: is a tradition of Hinduism, distinguished from other schools by its worship of Vishnu or his associated avatars, principally as Rama and Krishna, as the original and supreme God.
However, the good thing about Hinduism is that even if you belong to one kind of division, doesnt mean you do not believe in the ideas of the other divisions..
Once again.. A very good article.. :)
A good and very honest thinking . True background of our comunity
yes it is sanatana dharma. because of invadors we have lost originality. our rishies and saints spent their life to up lift dharma. i realy felt very happy to read this and felt it is in nut shell about hindu religion
Jesus Christ gained victory over the evil one 2000 years back when he performed the ultimate yagna. Being crucified on a tree at Calvary, he made powerless the sting of Satan (the evil one) by striking out our iniquities. The prophesy that God would be born as man to a virgin and would perform this yagna after maintaining a flawless life is mentioned in SAMA VEDA: "Livhya goptharam mahakyou dadhina kuryanthi havya yaana parya thaseen" (meaning the incarnate will be born to a virgin in a cattle shed); "Praja Pathirthe vebhyam athmanaam yagnam kruthva prayaschith" (meaning the one who rules the world, in order to atone for the sins of many allowed his body to be crushed and offered it as a sacrifice (yagna). Again in Thanddiya Maha Brahmanam (Second part of Sama Veda) it is said "Yagnova Apathe" meaning, only a sacrifice can save. It is also said in the vedas "Prathamani dharmani" meaning "Sacrifices are the foremost of our first duties." And also the Aryans used to say "Aham Yagnosmi" meaning, unless God the creator, holy of holies offered himself as a sacrifice there is no salvation. There is another sloka in Thandiya Maha Brahmanam: "Sarva papa pariharo raktha prokshana mavashakam thath raktham parama thmena punya dana baliyagnam" (meaning: if one has to be delivered from all kinds of sins (such as sins committed through hearing, seeing, sinful thoughts, sinful deeds, sinful ideas, sinful conduct) and to be saved, shedding of blood is necessary).
All Gurus..lot of good info. I would like to share what I have read, understood and shared. Please visit this www.anmolshabad.blogspot.com
good point in ur article.. i support it wholeheartedly.. just like to add a point here.. a year ago, i was searching for t same topic, i found a blog that says that the archeologist back then had created this concept of 'aryans' to come up with a date that is claimed to be when hinduism is practiced in vedic way.. in truth, t recent studies showed no sign of invasion found that supports the claim.. they strongly believe that aryans dont exist, it was created by the whites to blind us, because they dint want to admit that there is a civilization before them.. no offense but, this is what i really read from that.. people's ego had made them to belittle our origin in many ways they can, they had denied t hinduism's truths, finding faults which doesnt even make sense, and luring people in our religion is not the concept of hinduism, (note this: all this happens not because they love their religion so much, if so they shud promote it not compare or disgrace others believes, they hate other religion, the main reason is hatred).. i m a hindu i can live peacefully with any person with any other believes, i have the openness, we dont discourage religion, we respect them, please dont lower urselves by belittling and making fun of other person's believes.. have respect for what a person believes and holds.. all religion's teaching comes to only one focal point, that is practicing dharma, a way of life in a different way and different perspective, that is all there is to it.. ive been to church out of respect n adoration i hold for jesus but this doesnt make me a christian at any point, but there my religion was belittled and pranked for the way we pray to 'stones' and 'animals' as they indicated our gods, i was deeply enraged.. i had learned arab language, while i was in that class, i was invited to be a muslim but i politely denied it.. at any rate, i never saw or hear any hindu doing like this.. this makes me happy, seriously people.. religion is a way of life, if u dont like it, u can live like the way u want it to be.. cuz no body can judge u.. just dont take a religion too seriously, it only wants us to live peacefully, not to destroy peace for its own sake..
sincerely,
shaan
