Devotee offers 70 kg gold as Thulabharam in Guruvayur Temple

Thulabharam is an important ritual at the Sri Krishna Temple in Guruvayur, Kerala. In the ritual, the devotee sits on the one side of a weighing balance. The other side of the weighing balance is filled with materials he/she wishes to offer. The devotee offers materials of his/her weight or more. Normally people offer sugar, jaggery, sacred leaves etc.

But on Monday T N C Menon, Managing Director of the Bangalore-based Sobha Group companies, performed Thulabharam with gold at Guruvayur. The gold was brought in the form of biscuits. (via)

The price of 1 kg gold in international market while writing this article in Hindu Blog was 925246.40 Rupees. For 70 kg = 6,47,67,220 Rupees.

Rotation of money is crucial for any economy and Sri Krishna is doing his bit.

Thulabharam is also performed at Tirupati and several other temples in South India.

The picture is of a young devotee performing Thulabharam at Tirupati.

Probably Krishna may be happier with some Avil (beaten rice) rather than gold! I wonder if this 'rich' Kuchela (Mr. Menon) got his wishes!
Hopefully, Krishna will distribute the gold among the poor roaming around that temple.

Dont know how many people this guy has helped .Feel it is better to help some one who needs help with this money than giving Gold to God . It is known thing that "Service to humanity is greater than service to God"

I am of the opinion that nobody can "donate". We can only return what is His. Compared to some people who do not give a rupee to a beggar this type of offering to the Supreme Lord is most auspicious. I have argued with some people (non-hindus and anti-brahmins) who complained what the need was for the Sankaracharya to give a golden "headwear" to Srinivasa! Giving such offerings to the Lord bestow on us immense benefits. Since the Lord Narayana is the Lord of all (insects, plants, germs, worms, humans et. al.), any offering to the Lord is equivalent to offering it to every being and more beneficial.
