The Lord Ayyappa temple in Kerala has been insured for 30 crore by the Travancore Dewasom Board, which runs the temple.
There is a free-of-cost accident insurance project for pilgrims. Pilgrims suffering injuries or death at a stretch of about 18 km from Nilakkal to uphill Sannidhanam are covered under the pilgrim insurance scheme. The insurance amount offered is up to 100,000. Officials on duty at Sabarimala would get up to 150,000.
The temple and the adjoining structures have also been insured.
More than 30 million pilgrims are expected this year. (link)
